Key Responsibilities

Stores Engineer

Material Receipt & Inspection

• Receive incoming raw materials, bought-out components, consumables, tools, spare parts, etc.

• Verify delivery quantity, part codes, and specifications as per purchase orders and invoices.

• Coordinate with quality inspection teams for inward quality checks before storing.

Inventory Management

• Maintain accurate records of stock (physical and system).

• Regularly update stock movement in ERP/MRP systems.

• Ensure timely stock reconciliation and report discrepancies.

• Track shelf-life items, reorder levels, safety stock, and lead times to avoid stockouts or overstocking.

• Prepare and submit inventory reports (daily/weekly/monthly) to management.

Issuing & Dispatch

• Issue materials/tools to production, maintenance, or other departments against indents or issue slips.

• Manage FIFO (First In First Out) or FEFO (First Expiry First Out) methods for material consumption.

• Coordinate dispatch of finished goods (if applicable), including packaging and documentation.

Space & Layout Management

• Organize storage based on item type, frequency of use, hazard level, and weight.

• Ensure optimal space utilization, binning systems, and proper labeling for easy traceability.

ERP / Documentation

• Operate ERP or inventory management software to update material movement.

• Generate Goods Receipt Notes (GRN), Material Issue Slips, Stock Reports, etc.

• Maintain store documents in compliance with internal quality systems and ISO standards.

Safety & Compliance

• Ensure all storage and handling activities follow safety norms (material stacking, fire safety, PPE usage, MSDS for chemicals, etc.).

• Support audit readiness (ISO, internal audits, customer audits) by maintaining proper documentation.

• Dispose of obsolete/rejected/scrap materials as per company policy.

Coordination

• Coordinate with purchase, production, quality, tool room, and logistics teams.

• Participate in physical stock counts and audits.

Qualifications & Experience

Education

• Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical / Production / Industrial Engineering or any relevant technical background.

• Certification in storekeeping or materials management is an advantage.

Experience

•  3-5 years of experience in a stores or inventory control role in a manufacturing environment (preferably in precision machining / auto components industry).

Skills

• Proficient in inventory management systems (ERP, SAP, or equivalent).

• Familiarity with handling of technical items (tooling, fasteners, mechanical parts, consumables).

• Strong understanding of stock control principles, documentation, and physical verification.

• Ability to operate material handling equipment (pallet trucks, forklifts if licensed).

• Good communication and coordination skills.

• Basic understanding of ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001 standards as they relate to stores.

Reporting & Work Conditions

• Stores In-Charge / Assistant Manager - SCM / Plant Logistics Head

• Works closely with: Procurement, Production, Maintenance, Tool Room, and Quality teams

• Work environment: Factory shop floor and warehouse/stores areas

• May involve shift work depending on plant operations

• PPE and safety protocols must be followed at all times

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

• Inventory accuracy (% match physical vs system)

• Stock availability (Stock-outs vs replenishment cycles)

• GRN and material issue TAT (Turnaround Time)

• Inventory turnover ratio

• Space utilization efficiency

• Compliance with FIFO/FEFO and safety standards

• Audit observations / NCRs related to stores

• Scrap/obsolete item tracking and timely disposal
