Emergency Medical Technician

Role & responsibilities

• Patient Transportation:

  Safely moving patients from one area of the hospital to another, such as from the ambulance to the emergency department or between different units.

• Basic Life Support (BLS):

  Providing immediate care during transport or emergencies within the hospital, including CPR, administering oxygen, and applying splints.

• Patient Assessment & Monitoring:

  Performing rapid assessments to understand a patient's condition and continuously monitoring vital signs during transport.

• Communication & Reporting:

  Providing clear, detailed reports to receiving medical personnel at the hospital, relaying information on the patient's condition and the care given.

• Equipment & Vehicle Readiness:

  Maintaining the cleanliness and operational readiness of medical equipment and transport vehicles used within the hospital environment.

• Documentation:

  Accurately documenting patient details and all interventions provided during transport or hospital-based emergencies.

• Assisting Staff:

  Supporting paramedics, nurses, and other healthcare professionals with patient care, especially in high-stress situations.

• Following Protocols:

  Adhering to safety protocols, infection control procedures, and established medical protocols within the hospital

Preferred candidate profile

• Undergraduate degree in Emergency Medical Technology

• Certificate:

  A short-term program, often lasting 3 to 6 months, designed for basic emergency care skills.

• Diploma:

  A more extensive course, typically taking 1 to 2 years, providing a deeper understanding of emergency services.

• Undergraduate Degree:

  A 3-year program (like a Bachelor of Science in Emergency Medical Technology) offering comprehensive training and a deeper academic foundation in the field, requiring a 10+2 science stream qualification.
