You will be responsible for designing, drafting, and estimating fire hydrant systems in compliance with the National Building Code (NBC), NFPA standards, and local regulations. Your role will involve utilizing technical design expertise and cost estimation skills to develop safe, efficient, and cost-effective fire protection solutions. In this position, your key responsibilities will include: Design & Drafting: - Creating detailed fire hydrant system layouts using AutoCAD, including underground pipelines, valve assemblies, and hydrant placements. - Developing hydraulic calculations to determine water flow rates, pressure requirements, and pipe sizing. - Generating as-built drawings, schematics, and 3D models for construction teams. - Collaborating with architects, MEP teams, and contractors to integrate designs into broader project plans. Estimation & Cost Analysis: - Preparing Bill of Quantities (BOQ), material take-offs, and cost estimates for fire hydrant systems. - Analyzing project specifications to optimize material selection and labor costs. - Sourcing quotes from vendors and evaluating cost-effectiveness of components. Compliance & Standards: - Ensuring adherence to NBC guidelines, NFPA standards, and local fire safety regulations. - Reviewing designs for compliance with municipal approval processes and client requirements. Project Management & Coordination: - Conducting site visits to assess terrain, water supply, and installation feasibility. - Resolving design discrepancies during construction and providing technical support. - Managing multiple projects to meet deadlines and quality benchmarks. Documentation & Reporting: - Maintaining records of design revisions, approvals, and compliance certificates. - Preparing technical reports and project documentation for stakeholders. To qualify for this role, you should have a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Civil Engineering or a related field, along with at least 3 years of experience in fire protection system design, with expertise in AutoCAD. Additionally, you should possess proficiency in AutoCAD, knowledge of hydraulic modeling tools, familiarity with BIM software (Revit is a plus), and understanding of regulatory standards such as NBC, NFPA, ISO, and local fire codes. Strong communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills are also essential for this position. This is a full-time job with the benefit of working from home.
