Domestic Violence Support Worker

• Education and training: Many positions require a bachelor's degree in social work, human services, or a related field, or equivalent experience. Specialized training, such as the SafeLives Foundation course for Independent Domestic Violence Advisors (IDVA), may be required. Experience: Previous experience working with vulnerable populations and managing a caseload is typically required. Experience in crisis intervention and trauma-informed care is essential. Communication skills: Possess excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills to build trusting relationships with survivors and collaborate with other professionals. Compassion and empathy: Demonstrate a high degree of empathy, respect, and a non-judgmental attitude toward survivors. Adaptability and resilience: Be able to manage a high workload, respond to changing priorities, and work under pressure while maintaining self-awareness and self-care. Knowledge: Have a thorough understanding of the dynamics of domestic abuse, including its impact on adults and children, as well as relevant legislation and safeguarding procedures. Professionalism: Maintain the highest standards of ethics and confidentiality, and respect professional boundaries. Driving requirements: A valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation are often necessary for client travel and outreach.
