Role & responsibilities A Pharmacy Sales Assistant provides administrative and logistical support in a hospital pharmacy, focusing on medication inventory, prescription processing, and customer service under pharmacist supervision. Key duties include managing stock, dispensing medications, preparing labels, handling cash transactions, maintaining patient records, and addressing patient inquiries. The role requires excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and strong communication to ensure accurate, efficient pharmacy operations and compliance with regulations. Key Responsibilities Medication Management: Assist in dispensing medications and preparing them for patients or other hospital departments. Count, measure, and package medications accurately. Prepare and apply prescription labels to medication containers. Manage and organize inventory, including receiving, stocking, and rotating medications. Monitor stock levels, place orders for replenishment, and remove expired or damaged items. Maintain proper storage conditions for drugs, including cold chain management. Customer Service: Receive and process prescription orders and customer inquiries. Handle cash and credit card transactions at the counter. Provide information to patients on over-the-counter medications and direct clinical questions to the pharmacist. Administrative Support: Maintain and update patient records and confidential information in accordance with privacy regulations. Process insurance claims and handle associated paperwork. Answer incoming telephone calls and manage incoming/outgoing messages. Operate pharmacy computer systems and software for prescription processing and inventory. Operational Support: Ensure work areas are clean, organized, and maintained in a safe, hygienic manner. Assist with basic compounding of medications or preparing intravenous solutions under supervision. Coordinate delivery of medications to different sectors of the hospital. Skills and Qualifications Skills: Strong communication, organizational, and customer service skills. High attention to detail and accuracy are crucial. Qualifications: Minimum Graduation in any discipline with an experience in pharmacy sales. Completing a pharmacy assistant certification or diploma program can improve job prospects.
