Position Overview

The Desktop Support Engineer provides first-line technical support to employees across Acme Interiors, keeping desktops, laptops, peripherals, networks and business applications running smoothly. The role installs, configures and troubleshoots hardware and software, supports users clearly and promptly, and follows IT security and backup practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, configure and troubleshoot Windows 8.1, 10 and 11 Pro systems, including user permissions

• Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, network and peripheral issues for employees

• Install, configure and support common business and design software applications

• Support basic LAN/WAN connectivity, including router and switch configuration where required

• Maintain antivirus, firewall and general security best practices on user systems

• Perform backups and recovery procedures as per IT policy

• Support users on cloud services such as M365 and other cloud platforms

• Log, track and close support requests within agreed timelines, and escalate to the IT Manager where required

• Maintain IT asset records and documentation of issues and fixes

Technical Skills Required

1. Basic Networking: Understanding of LAN/WAN, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and basic router/switch configurations

2. Operating Systems: Windows 8.1, 10, 11 Pro installation and configuration, troubleshooting, permissions

3. Hardware Knowledge: Familiarity with computer hardware components, assembly, and troubleshooting

4. Software Installation and Management: Ability to install, configure, and troubleshoot common software applications

5. Security Fundamentals: Basic understanding of firewalls, antivirus software, and general security best practices

6. Backup and Recovery: Knowledge of backup solutions and recovery procedures

7. Basic Cloud Computing: Introduction to cloud services like M365, AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud

8. Troubleshooting: Strong analytical skills for diagnosing and resolving technical issues

Soft Skills

• Communication: Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users clearly

• Problem-Solving: Analytical thinking to find solutions to technical issues

• Time Management: Prioritizing tasks and managing time efficiently

• Teamwork: Ability to work effectively as part of a team

Required Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor degree

Experience

• 1-2 years of progressive experience in Desktop Support

• Proven track record of managing hardware and software support

Reporting Structure

• Reports to: IT Manager
