Database Performance Engineer

As a Database Performance Engineer at SingleStore, you will be at the forefront of tackling challenging customer issues and optimizing query performance to unleash the full capabilities of the SingleStore engine. Your role is customer-facing, dealing with escalated problems directly from customers and collaborating with various engineering teams. Here's what you can expect in this role: - Explore new features and improvements to enhance your expertise and delve deep into product features. - Dive into the internals of the query optimizer to become an expert in query execution. - Stay updated on statistical information collection and its role in the cost-based query optimizer. - Identify ways to achieve significant performance gains through small query text changes. - Reproduce performance issues across different platforms to gain a holistic understanding of the problem. - Educate customers on database implementation for optimal performance. - Work closely in a small, impactful team that shapes the product direction. Your responsibilities will include: - Collaborating with customers and the Support Engineering team on query tuning and performance-related support tickets. - Understanding how Linux host configuration impacts database performance and suggesting improvements. - Building reproductions of poorly performing workloads for investigation and bug identification. - Collaborating with internal teams to keep everyone updated on customer status. - Streamlining Support and Engineering processes, authoring documentation, and enhancing efficiency. - Participation in on-call rotation including weekends and holidays. To excel in this role, you should have: - 8+ years of experience as a DBA or in hands-on database work. - Expertise in relational/distributed database implementation, SQL query optimization, and tuning. - Strong troubleshooting skills, with a focus on database and Linux configuration impacts. - Proficiency in Linux performance analysis and familiarity with Kubernetes. - Experience with scripting or coding languages like C++, Python, Go, or Bash. - Understanding of distributed systems and cloud platforms like AWS/GCP. - Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
