Database Administrator

Technical Skills Required :

• SQL Server administration (2016 2025, Windows Server): installation and configuration to a standard baseline (memory, MAXDOP, tempdb, instant file initialisation, service accounts), cumulative-update patching, SQL Agent jobs, Database Mail and alerts.
• High availability & DR: Always On Availability Groups (synchronous / asynchronous commit, listener, readable secondaries, automatic and forced failover), Windows Server Failover Clustering with quorum / file-share or cloud witness, Failover Cluster Instances and log shipping; planned failovers and DR drills.
• Backup & recovery: full / differential / log backup strategy (e.g. Ola Hallengren or SQL Agent), point-in-time restore (STOPAT),CHECKSUM / VERIFYONLY, scheduled restore tests, DBCC CHECKDB and corruption handling, RPO / RTO definition and validation.
• Performance tuning: execution plans, Query Store (plan regression, plan forcing), DMVs, wait statistics, Extended Events, indexing and statistics, blocking / deadlock analysis, tempdb contention, transaction-log growth troubleshooting.
• Migrations & upgrades: version upgrades, server / storage / datastore moves, AG database file moves, side-by-side migrations with minimal downtime and rollback plans.
• Archiving & purging: retention design, batch purging, table partitioning with partition switching (sliding window), automated retention jobs.
• Security & hardening: logins, roles and least privilege, TDE / TLS, SQL Server Audit, surface-area reduction, quarterly access reviews, closure of VAPT / audit findings.
• Automation & monitoring: advanced T-SQL, PowerShell (dbatools preferred); monitoring and alerting dashboards (e.g. Grafana) for health, AG status, backups, disk growth and slow queries.
• Excellent advantage: MySQL (GTID replication, InnoDB Cluster, XtraBackup) and / or PostgreSQL (streaming replication, Patroni, pgBackRest) administration; Linux basics; cross-engine migration (e.g. SQL Server to PostgreSQL).
