Data Journalist delhi, india 2 years None Not disclosed On-site Full Time

Full Time Noida (near Delhi, India) Posted 2 years ago Applications have closed Indian Express Data Team Hi, so the Indian newspaper Indian Express is setting up a data team. I’ve just joined it and I’m looking for someone who can code up news interactives using Svelte. The work will involve creating visualizations either for your own stories or for others, setting up dashboards for election results etc. You don’t need to have worked with Svelte before, if you’ve done work with React, Vue or any other modern framework from the past few years, I’m sure you could transition to Svelte easily. This is a full-time role, it’ll be in Delhi, India (Noida to be precise). It will be work-from-office in the beginning because I’ll need your help setting things up. But once that’s done we can do a hybrid role where you come to office a few days a week, and work other days from home. The coding set-up could be something similar to what the Pudding team has done at https://github.com/the-pudding/svelte-starter or something more sophisticated like what the Reuters team has done at https://reuters-graphics.github.io/docs_graphics-kit/ , it’ll depend on what you’re comfortable with. In terms of experience / education, you should have some background in coding / design / journalism. Years of experience could be anything from 0 to 20, doesn’t matter, get in touch! If you’re interested and want more details, email me at mail@shijith.com, thanks! -shijith

Mendenhall Postdoctoral Research Fellow (Coastal Science) santa cruz, goa, india 2 years None Not disclosed Remote Full Time

Full Time Other Santa Cruz, CA; St. Petersburg, FL; or Woods Hole, MA Posted 2 years ago Applications have closed Website USGS U.S. Geological Survey Science for a changing world The U.S. Geological Survey is seeking applicants for the Mendenhall Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in several research areas including Water Resources, Energy and Minerals, Earthquakes, Volcanoes, Geomagnetism, Landslides, and Coastal Resources. The Coastal and Marine Hazards and Resources Program is recruiting for 7 postdoctoral positions: S65. Geophysical imaging of mudflow processes along the Mississippi River Delta front The successful Mendenhall postdoctoral investigator will work with a new, high-quality marine geophysical dataset and a team of geologists, geophysicist, modelers and engineers to help develop a comprehensive understanding of seabed mudflow processes in a region where there is significant hazard to offshore oil and gas infrastructure. 22-40. Identifying coastal wetland tipping points with geospatial metrics and models We are seeking a Mendenhall Fellow to explore how geospatial data and process-based models can be used in tandem to detect how, when, and where coastal wetlands may cross ecogeomorphic thresholds, thereby posing a hazard to communities and ecosystems. Approaches may include, but are not limited to, synthesis of satellite remote-sensing data products and application of coupled ecogeomorphic models. 22-41. Fluxes and fate of carbon within coastal wetlands: Impact of restoration on spatial and temporal ecosystem responses The postdoctoral scholar will advance carbon cycle science (e.g., stocks, fluxes and transformations) in coastal wetlands as part of a large multi-disciplinary and -institution project that will assess the impacts of various restoration strategies on wetland persistence and resilience. Development of data and products will follow engagement with stakeholders, including land and resource managers. 22-45. Multi-model assessments of marsh vulnerability to sea level rise Multiple approaches for projecting marsh vulnerability to future sea level rise exist; however, no single model meets all end user needs, particularly at the national scale. This opportunity will focus on developing approaches for quantitative model comparisons, multi-model ensemble predictions and uncertainty assessments of marsh evolution to sea level rise 22-42. Socioeconomic valuation and accounting for flood risk reduction by coastal ecosystems A Fellow will advance coastal natural capital accounting by integrating results of coastal flooding models and its reduction by ecosystems; the value of infrastructure and human populations at risk; and damage functions to quantify socioeconomic impacts of flooding and its mitigation. Such natural capital accounting-compatible analyses address environmental equity and climate vulnerability issues. 22-43. Mangrove sedimentation and response to relative sea-level rise The Fellow will investigate the natural infrastructure of mangroves in response to relative sea-level rise by developing a record of deposition and accumulation rates using radiometric techniques across a range of locations that vary in terms of geomorphology, mangrove species, and recent sea level trends. 22-44. Assessing coastal storm predictions through a social lens Coastal storm prediction models predict impact to both ecological and social parts of the coastal ecosystem. There has been much less attention paid to assessing social aspects of model predictions. This research opportunity will focus on developing an approach to assessing social aspects of model predictions using modelled results along with the impact of an actual storm event.
