Job Summary
The
Dance Teacher
is responsible for planning and delivering engaging and inclusive dance instruction to students across various age groups. This role encourages creativity, discipline, teamwork, and appreciation for diverse dance styles. The teacher also supports school events and performances, helping students develop confidence and performance skills in line with the school's international ethos.
Key Responsibilities
Teach a variety of dance styles (e.g., contemporary, classical, jazz, hip-hop, cultural/folk, ballet) tailored to different age groups.
Design structured lesson plans that balance technique, expression, and physical fitness.Adapt instruction for beginners as well as advanced learners and diverse skill levels.Use music, choreography, and movement to build confidence, coordination, and creativity.
- Curriculum & Program Development
Align dance instruction with the school's performing arts or PE curriculum.
Integrate dance into thematic units or cultural studies, when appropriate.Develop assessment methods to monitor and report on student progress and engagement.
Choreograph and direct student performances for school events such as annual day, cultural shows, assemblies, or international celebrations.
Prepare students for internal showcases and external dance competitions or festivals.Collaborate with music, drama, and art departments for interdisciplinary projects.
- Student Engagement & Well-being
Encourage participation, self-expression, and respect for different dance forms and cultures.
Promote teamwork and inclusion in dance activities.Create a safe and respectful classroom environment where all students feel confident to perform.
Maintain attendance records, performance footage, costume and prop inventories, and student progress reports.Ensure dance studio or teaching space is organized and safe.Assist in budgeting for costumes, equipment, and event logistics as required.
Qualifications & Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Dance, Performing Arts, or a related field.Formal training in one or more dance styles.Minimum 2 years of experience teaching dance, preferably in a school or youth-centered setting.Strong choreography and classroom management skills.Fluent in English; additional languages or multicultural experience are a plus.First Aid/CPR certification (preferred).
