Critical Care Consultant

Key Responsibilities

1. Clinical Management

• Manage all critically ill patients in MICU, SICU, CCU, and HDU units.
• Lead daily rounds and make clinical decisions on ventilator management, hemodynamic monitoring, and life-support systems.
• Perform critical procedures (intubation, central line insertion, arterial lines, tracheostomy, bronchoscopy, etc.).
• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans.
• Ensure timely consultation and coordination with other specialists (cardiology, nephrology, neurology, surgery, etc.).

2. Quality, Safety & Protocols

• Implement and monitor ICU clinical protocols, infection control, and antibiotic stewardship.
• Ensure compliance with NABH and NABL quality standards.
• Monitor mortality, morbidity, and other clinical indicators; conduct regular audits.
• Participate in root cause analysis of sentinel events or near-miss cases.

3. Administrative Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate and timely patient documentation and EMR updates.
• Participate in bed allocation, ICU utilization management, and patient transfers.
• Contribute to budget planning for ICU resources, consumables, and equipment.
• Ensure adequate staffing, duty rosters, and discipline in ICU operations.

4. Academic & Research

• Conduct CME sessions, case discussions, and journal clubs for continuous learning.
• Participate in research, publications, and clinical trials within the hospital.
• Train postgraduate residents and interns in critical care medicine.

5. Patient & Family Communication

• Provide regular updates to patient attendants on condition, prognosis, and treatment plan.
• Handle critical communication with empathy and professionalism.
