Description

The Commercial Writer, User Experience (UX) & Tech-Enabled Instructional Design, serves in a content development role in support of Incentive Compensation Staff and User education. This individual is responsible for implementing solutions designed by the IC Process team. They serve as the writer on project teams, interacting with the Learning Strategist and the client. They work collaboratively with the assigned Process Manager to assess client needs and align on the approach, then create deliverables accordingly.

They may also be tasked with delivering or facilitating training or train-the-trainer sessions. This role also supports the team by vetting new software platforms and technology-enabled solutions from a user experience and use case perspective, including creating supporting content, storyboards, and presentations for internal and external teams of findings and/or proposed solutions. This role directly supports the corporate strategic theme of Tech-Enabled Solutions with an always-on innovation mindset.

This individual specializes in writing for deliverables that incorporate newer digital and technical formats, serving as a technical and subject matter expert to support innovations in training and learner experience. They frequently work at the intersection of instructional design and user experience for tech-enabled solutions. Deliverables may require platform-specific writing across mediums, with a point of view that integrates multiple dimensions of instructional design, technical requirements, and creation of purposeful, audience-aligned content.

This includes content development for videos, websites, web-based/mobile/tablet applications, and learning management systems, as well as additional and emerging delivery methods, including virtual and onsite meetings and events. To tailor user-centered learning experiences that are intuitive, they leverage a technical mindset, familiarity with new virtual/digital channels, and direct experience with the latest platforms. As such, they may be asked to share their technical and subject matter expertise with the IC Services teams. In support of business development efforts, they collaborate to determine training needs, tailor pre-sales strategies, and propose recommendations. This includes using their specialized knowledge to estimate the level of effort and skillsets required for new deliverables.

This may be a remote or office-based position.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (duties may include, but are not limited to the following)

Writing Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with Incentive Compensation team to validate needs and the proposed solution.
  • Collaborates with Incentive Compensation team to create outlines/strawmen/design documents for assigned deliverables.
  • Collaborates with the Incentive Compensation team to execute project strategies and build intuitive learning experiences.
  • Works with an accountable Learning Strategist on projects or assumes the accountable Learning Strategist role for UX/Tech projects to develop assigned deliverables in alignment with project budget.
  • Applies Learning Strategy, user experience, and instructional design principles to optimize writing approaches for assigned deliverables (e.g., eModule transcripts, presentations, workshops, tools, job aids).
  • Uses best practices for writing, taking into account existing Learning Strategy intellectual property that can be leveraged, what aligns with the budget for the project, and what is most effective for business needs.
  • Adjusts writing styles, language, and tone for different types of deliverables (e.g., training communications, evaluations, post-training surveys such as Kirkpatrick, assessment methods and other associated deliverables).
  • Develops documentation for relevant training logistical and preparation support, including scheduling assistance, printing guides, and facilities requirements.
  • As needed, assists in developing Incentive Compensation intellectual property.
  • As needed, assists in developing and maintaining role-specific training programs/curricula.
  • The ability to communicate clearly and effectively is critical to this role.

Cross-Functional Responsibilities

  • Self-oversees UX/technical writing projects as assumes the Learning Strategist role as needed.
  • Acts as a partner and supports collaboration with the Syneos Health Incentive Compensation System team, Deployment Solutions teams, and other key internal stakeholders.
  • Collaborates with all project team members, including in user research, the development of content, usability testing, and solving of any project challenges.
  • Iterates quickly across platforms/mediums, applying AGILE principles in a team-setting with multiple stakeholders.
  • Guides work with interactive and general design theory, paying special attention to the clarity and intuitiveness of content language and graphics to align with adult learning principles and best practices of UX and LXD.
  • Combines strategic thinking, analytical and communication skills, to explain technical concepts or processes in a simple way to both internal teams and external clients.
  • Crafts client-facing copy in apps, websites, and other digital solutions, which apply UX principles to guide users in how to navigate and interact with an interface of the product.
  • Writes best-practice guidance, samples, and technical concept guides.
  • Creates supporting documentation, RASCI/RASI process maps, and templated or redacted content to guide duplicable and scalable development of tech-enabled solutions.
  • Uses technology and information architecture to maintain, as well as update a database of Incentive Compensation intellectual property.

Business Development Responsibilities (As Needed)

  • Participates in discovery sessions with IC team, to uncover requirements, challenges, and identify business opportunities.
  • Creates content and presentation materials/demonstrations to assist in the development of value-based presentations (e.g., for client demos, technical assessments, etc.) based on business needs and IC-proposed solutions.
  • Supports the IC team to implement solutions, to drive greater revenue margins through tailored applications of existing capabilities for clients.
  • Researches and provides recommendations to IC team for new solutions to expand capabilities and support corporate strategic theme of Tech-Enabled Solutions and an always-on innovation environment.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Experience

Required

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in training
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in UX and/or technical writing for tech-enabled training
  • Minimum 5 years of experience with short, medium, and long-form copywriting

Preferred

  • Minimum 2 years of experience doing research and supporting strategy in relevant related roles (instructional design, user experience, etc.)
  • Minimum 2 years of engaging in a geographically distributed environment navigating various communication barriers and time zone differences

Education

Required

  • 4-year college degree or equivalent relevant experience

Preferred

  • MBA or Master's Degree or equivalent experience

Skills

Required

  • High-level of writing skills across various platforms and mediums
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office 365, learning management systems, Articulate Content authoring software and/or suites, Camtasia and content management systems

Preferred

  • Background in Tech Training/Instructional Design or equivalent
  • Experience with prototyping, wireframing, user flows, and mock-ups
  • Utilization of Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) tools or other translation-specific applications
