Senior Structural Designer (Tekla Structures) Location: Kerala Department: Engineering Reports To: Lead Structural Engineer / Design Manager Job Summary We are looking for a Senior Structural Designer with strong expertise in Tekla Structures to lead detailed modeling and drafting of structural steel and reinforced concrete works for industrial, oil & gas, petrochemical, and process plant projects. The role requires a high level of technical proficiency, coordination skills, and the ability to supervise junior designers and interface effectively with engineers and other disciplines. Key Responsibilities • Lead the development of 3D structural models using Tekla Structures, ensuring accuracy and adherence to project standards. • Prepare and review general arrangement (GA), fabrication, and erection drawings including assemblies, single parts, anchor bolts, and connection details. • Supervise and guide a team of structural designers and draftsmen, reviewing their outputs for quality and consistency. • Coordinate with structural engineers for design data, connection details, and load information. • Review engineering drawings, specifications, and design calculations to ensure constructability and compliance with standards. • Manage model coordination and clash detection with piping, mechanical, electrical, and civil disciplines. • Generate and validate BOQ, material lists, bolt lists, and reports from Tekla models for procurement and fabrication. • Lead the implementation of BIM workflows and ensure smooth integration with other 3D models and project databases. • Maintain drawing and model revision control in accordance with project documentation procedures. • Provide technical support during fabrication and site erection stages, resolving detailing and connection-related queries. • Conduct internal design reviews and ensure that deliverables meet quality, cost, and schedule objectives. Technical Skills • Expert-level proficiency in Tekla Structures — advanced modeling, detailing, customization, and report generation. • Strong understanding of steel and RCC detailing standards as per AISC, IS, BS, or Euro Codes. • Hands-on experience with industrial and plant structures: pipe racks, equipment supports, access platforms, and building frames. • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Navisworks, Revit, or other BIM coordination tools. • Good knowledge of connection detailing, welding symbols, bolt assemblies, and fabrication shop practices. • Ability to interpret and apply structural analysis and design outputs in detailing work. • Experience with project documentation systems and drawing management workflows. Qualifications • Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Civil / Structural Engineering or related field. • 8–15 years of relevant experience in structural modeling and detailing, with at least 5 years of Tekla Structures experience. • Prior experience in oil & gas, petrochemical, or process plant projects preferred. • Certification or advanced training in Tekla Structures will be an added advantage. Soft Skills • Strong leadership and mentoring abilities for junior designers. • Excellent communication and interdisciplinary coordination skills. • High attention to detail and commitment to design quality. • Ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, and manage workload under pressure. • Proactive, self-motivated, and capable of taking ownership of assigned deliverables.
