Butchers Assistant

We are seeking a reliable and hardworking Butcher’s Assistant to support daily meat preparation and processing activities. The ideal candidate will assist the head butcher with cutting, trimming, packaging, and maintaining cleanliness to ensure food safety standards are met. This role is perfect for someone with a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and an interest in meat processing and food service.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist with cutting, slicing, deboning, and trimming meat under the direction of the butcher
• Prepare and package meat products for retail or wholesale sale
• Weigh, label, and price meat products accurately
• Clean and sanitize tools, equipment, and workstations in compliance with hygiene regulations
• Receive, inspect, and store incoming meat shipments
• Maintain stock levels and rotate products to ensure freshness
• Dispose of waste materials and by-products properly
• Provide excellent customer service when needed
• Follow all health and safety procedures and report any issues to supervisors

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Previous experience in a kitchen, butcher shop, or meat processing facility is a plus
• Ability to handle sharp tools and heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs)
• Good understanding of hygiene and food safety practices
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions
• Comfortable working in cold environments (refrigerated areas)
• Willingness to learn and take direction

Work Environment:

• May involve standing for extended periods
• Exposure to cold, wet, and noisy conditions
• Use of protective clothing and equipment is required
