Plant Maintenance & Operations Oversee mechanical maintenance of Submerged Arc Furnaces (SAF) , power plant auxiliaries , material handling systems , cooling towers , and crusher units . Ensure smooth operation of Ferro Alloys production lines (FeMn, SiMn, FeSi). Plan preventive, predictive & shutdown maintenance and ensure zero-breakdown culture. Monitor performance of critical equipment: gearboxes, conveyors, cranes, pumps, compressors, blowers, and hydraulic systems. 2. Project & Installation Lead mechanical projects for furnace upgradation, new equipment installation, and capacity expansion. Vendor finalization, technical evaluation, BOQ preparation & project scheduling. Ensure compliance with quality & safety standards during erection & commissioning. 3. Procurement & Vendor Management Work closely with purchase team for sourcing mechanical spares, consumables, fabrication items, and capital equipment. Develop & maintain qualified vendors for critical spare parts. Cost negotiation, rate finalization & contract management. 4. Team Leadership Lead a team of engineers, supervisors, technicians & contractors. Ensure proper skill development, shift planning & manpower management. Promote safety culture and ensure adherence to SOPs. 5. Compliance & Documentation Ensure statutory compliance related to mechanical maintenance. Maintain detailed maintenance logs, breakdown reports, and equipment history cards. Create and update SOPs for all critical mechanical operations. Key Responsibilities: 1. Procurement & Sourcing Manage end-to-end procurement of mechanical equipment and spare parts for: DRI (Direct Reduced Iron) Plant CPP (Captive Power Plant) BoP equipment for Power Plant SMS (Steel Melting Shop) including furnaces, CCM, cranes, etc. Identify, evaluate, and onboard reliable vendors (domestic & international). Ensure competitive price discovery through RFQ, techno-commercial comparison, negotiation, and finalization. 2. Technical & Commercial Evaluation Work closely with mechanical, electrical, projects & operations departments to understand specifications. Verify technical compliance of vendor offers with engineering requirements. Prepare cost analysis, justification notes, and procurement approvals. 3. Strategic Procurement & Cost Optimization Develop long-term rate contracts and strategic sourcing plans. Implement cost-saving initiatives, alternate sourcing, and localization. Maintain control over procurement budgets and reduce inventory costs. 4. Vendor Management Conduct vendor performance evaluation (quality, delivery, price, service). Develop new suppliers for critical and imported items. Monitor vendor schedules and ensure on-time delivery. 5. Procurement Operations & Systems Ensure timely PO creation, contract management, follow-up, and documentation. Coordinate with logistics for transportation, customs clearance, and dispatch planning. Utilize ERP systems (SAP / Oracle / ERPNext etc.) for procurement workflows. 6. Compliance & Governance Ensure adherence to company procurement policies and audit guidelines. Maintain transparent, ethical sourcing practices. Prepare MIS reports, procurement dashboards, and management presentations. Required Qualifications & Experience: B.E./B.Tech Mechanical Engineering (mandatory) 10–20 years of experience in mechanical procurement in integrated steel plants . Strong experience in purchasing equipment/spares for DRI, CPP, Power Plant, SMS, EOT cranes, pumps, compressors, gearboxes, conveyors, refractory items, etc. Expertise in techno-commercial negotiations and vendor development.
