Aaditya Bhatt, Senior Standing Counsel for the Income Tax Department, leads a dedicated practice representing the Department before the Gujarat High Court and various appellate forums. The firm combines rigorous legal research with strategic litigation to uphold the interests of the Revenue in complex direct tax matters, while maintaining seamless coordination with Income Tax authorities and departmental offices. Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Junior Associate position in Direct Tax Litigation, based in Ahmedabad. The Junior Associate will work directly under the supervision of Aaditya Bhatt, Senior Standing Counsel for the Income Tax Department, assisting in all aspects of tax litigation on behalf of the Revenue. Key responsibilities include: - Preparing detailed case briefs and legal notes for matters pending before Gujarat High Court and ITAT - Drafting replies to writ petitions, appeals, and miscellaneous applications filed against the Income Tax Department - Drafting rejoinders, written submissions, and notes on arguments for court proceedings - Preparing appeals and petitions on behalf of the Income Tax Department - Conducting legal research on direct tax provisions, judicial precedents, and revenue circulars - Coordinating with the office of the Principal Chief Commissioner/Chief Commissioner of Income Tax and concerned officers in the Income Tax Department - Assisting in matter tracking, file management, and maintaining liaison with departmental representatives - Attending court hearings and taking detailed notes as required Qualifications - Law degree (LLB/LLM) from a recognized institution with enrollment under the Bar Council of India - Strong understanding of the Income Tax Act, 1961, and tax litigation procedures - Excellent legal drafting skills with ability to prepare court-ready pleadings, replies, and submissions - Proficiency in legal research and case law analysis - Strong written and oral communication skills - Ability to work under pressure and meet strict court deadlines - Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and coordination abilities - Prior experience or internship in tax litigation (representing either Revenue or assessee) is preferred - Familiarity with e-filing systems, court procedures at Gujarat High Court, and departmental protocols is advantageous - Candidates with background in government litigation or representing statutory authorities will be given preference
