AWS Database Administrator

As an experienced PostgreSQL Database Administrator at Weekday's client, your role will involve managing and optimizing database systems hosted on AWS to support technology-driven applications in healthcare and beyond. Your responsibilities will include: - Designing, implementing, and maintaining PostgreSQL database instances on AWS for optimal performance and high availability. - Managing AWS RDS for PostgreSQL, including provisioning, performance tuning, version upgrades, and maintenance. - Configuring robust database backup, disaster recovery, and failover strategies. - Monitoring database performance using AWS tools and making necessary adjustments for speed and cost reduction. - Conducting security reviews, applying updates, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. - Collaborating with engineering teams to refine database schema, optimize queries, and create efficient indexing strategies. - Leveraging AWS services such as EC2, S3, IAM, CloudWatch, and CLI for effective database operations. - Automating routine administrative tasks using scripting languages like Python or Bash for improved system reliability and efficiency. - Providing expert guidance to development teams on best practices for database usage, query optimization, and data governance. - Keeping abreast of advancements in database technologies and AWS offerings to enhance system capabilities continuously. Requirements: - Strong expertise in PostgreSQL database administration, including architecture design and performance tuning on AWS. - Hands-on experience with AWS services including RDS, Redshift, Aurora, EC2, S3, IAM, CloudWatch, and AWS CLI. - In-depth knowledge of database security, data integrity, and disaster recovery best practices. - Proficiency in scripting for automation (e.g., Python, Bash). - Familiarity with networking fundamentals such as DHCP, DNS, and load balancing. - Ability to document technical processes, configurations, and architecture clearly and effectively. - Proven success working with cross-functional teams to support scalable application development. Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience). - Minimum of 10 years of experience in database administration with a focus on PostgreSQL in cloud-based environments, especially AWS.
