job responsibilities of an Ethical Officer 1. Compliance Monitoring Ensure the company complies with all local and international labor laws, environmental regulations, and buyer-specific ethical standards. 2. Code of Conduct Implementation – Enforce the company's code of ethics and conduct policies across all departments and supplier chains. 3. Social Audits – Coordinate and support third-party audits (e.g. BSCI, SEDEX, WRAP), and conduct internal audits to identify violations. 4. Training & Awareness – Educate employees, especially factory workers and supervisors, on ethical practices, worker rights, and safety standards. 5. Worker Grievance Handling – Set up systems for employees to report issues confidentially and ensure timely resolution. 6. Corrective Action Plans (CAPs) – Work with teams to address non-compliances and implement improvements based on audit findings. 7. Record Keeping & Reporting – Maintain documentation of compliance reports, audit results, and training records for buyer and legal reviews. 8. Supplier Assessment – Evaluate suppliers and subcontractors to ensure they meet ethical sourcing standards. 9. Liaison with Buyers & NGOs – Communicate with buyers or third-party agencies regarding social compliance and ethical performance. 10. Child & Forced Labor Prevention – Implement strict measures to ensure no child or forced labor is used at any level of production.
