Job Description

The Department of Psychology at the University of York campus is looking for an Associate Lecturer to cover a maternity leave position for 10 months, with a specific focus on teaching Social Psychology. As an Associate Lecturer, your main responsibilities will include supporting teaching on both Postgraduate and Undergraduate programs in Psychology, marking assignments, supervising students, and providing guidance on study skills and learning challenges. You will be expected to conduct lectures, lead seminars, tutorials, and other forms of teaching, while incorporating innovative techniques to enhance student engagement and understanding. To be considered for this role, you should possess postgraduate training in Psychology, experience in student supervision and tutoring at the undergraduate or postgraduate level, and a background in delivering lectures. Familiarity with higher education teaching practices, including assessment and feedback methods, would be advantageous. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in Social Psychology, specifically in the areas of identity and prejudice. Key Qualifications and Skills Required: - A PhD in Psychology or nearing completion of the same - Profound knowledge in a Psychology field relevant to the department - Excellent communication skills - Academic or teaching qualification, or a willingness to obtain the Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice - Ability to develop and deliver engaging teaching materials across various modules or within a specific subject area - Proficiency in student supervision, study skills advice, and learning problem assistance - Capability to independently manage and deliver teaching responsibilities - Competence in planning, organizing, and assessing teaching contributions - Previous experience in teaching and learning at the higher education level or similar context - Skill in utilizing diverse teaching methods to inspire and involve students - Demonstrated success in planning and designing teaching materials If you are interested in this position, we encourage you to apply by the deadline of 04/08/2025.
