Job Description

The Consultant in the Department of Ophthalmology plays a crucial role in ensuring smooth services in the hospital, specifically taking care of in-patients. Your core responsibilities will include assessing and diagnosing patients to determine the necessary treatment or surgeries. This involves treating conditions such as cataract, glaucoma, refractive issues, and performing corneal surgeries. Additionally, you will diagnose and treat injuries, disorders, and diseases of the eye and eye structures, including the cornea, sclera, conjunctiva, and eyelids. It is essential to meet with patients" families to provide updates on their condition and surgery details, maintain accurate patient records, and prescribe necessary treatments or corrective lenses. Your role will also involve performing Lasik laser surgeries, using Yag Laser for posterior capsule opacification post cataract surgery, and Green Laser for Retinopathy. Leadership skills will be required to effectively manage the team within the operating room and coordinate with other healthcare professionals for optimal patient care. Emergency surgeries, administrative tasks, and attending outside camps are part of your duties. A thorough understanding of human anatomy, microsurgery techniques, and collaboration with multidisciplinary health teams are essential for success in this role. Key performance indicators for this position include 100% compliance in documentation and confidently handling medical responsibilities independently without errors or complaints. The minimum qualifications for this role include an MBBS degree along with an MS in Ophthalmology or DNB. Candidates should have 7-9+ years of experience post MD/MS/DNB, with strong analytical skills and computer knowledge. Behavioral skills such as good communication, being process-oriented, having presence of mind, being hardworking, and a team player are essential. Proficiency in English and Hindi is required for effective communication with internal contacts such as the HOD, Medical Superintendent, Consultants, Emergency Department, Coordinators, as well as external contacts like patients and attendants.
