Assistant Professor Forensic Medicine

Position Summary

The Assistant Professor in Forensic Medicine is responsible for teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students, conducting medico-legal autopsies, preparing expert opinions, engaging in research, and supporting the administration of the department. The role demands strong academic, clinical, and research orientation in line with NMC and institutional standards.

Key Responsibilities1. Academic Responsibilities

• Teach MBBS and allied health science students the core concepts of Forensic Medicine, Toxicology, and Medical Jurisprudence.
• Deliver lectures, conduct practical sessions, tutorials, and internal assessments.
• Supervise undergraduate/postgraduate dissertations and project work.
• Participate in curriculum development and continuous evaluation programs.

2. Medico-Legal Work

• Conduct medico-legal autopsies and prepare post-mortem reports in coordination with legal authorities.
• Prepare and issue expert medico-legal opinions in cases of injury, poisoning, sexual assault, and other medico-legal matters.
• Appear in court as a medical expert witness when summoned.

3. Research and Publications

• Initiate and participate in research projects in the field of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology.
• Publish in peer-reviewed journals and contribute to institutional academic output.
• Guide undergraduate and postgraduate research activities.

4. Administrative and Other Duties

• Maintain accurate medico-legal records and comply with legal standards and court procedures.
• Participate in departmental meetings, inspections, accreditations (e.g., NMC, NAAC), and policy implementation.
• Assist the HOD in departmental planning, audits, and academic schedules.

Qualifications and Eligibility

• Educational Qualification:
• MBBS from a recognized institution.
• MD in Forensic Medicine / Forensic Medicine and Toxicology from an NMC-recognized institution.
• Experience (as per NMC norms):
• Minimum 3 years teaching/research experience in a recognized medical college/institution in the subject concerned (if promoted from Senior Resident).
• Registration:
• Must have valid registration with the State Medical Council/NMC.
