Senior DevOps Engineer (Contract-to-Hire) Job Title: Senior DevOps Engineer Company: Apra Nova Location: India (Remote) Experience: 5+ years A Note to Applicants: We are specifically seeking a candidate with a proven track record of architecting and implementing robust, scalable, and resilient cloud-native solutions from the ground up. The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience in not just operating, but designing and building complex systems. About the Role We are building a multi-region cloud-native education platform where users run real-world projects inside provisioned containers. As a Senior DevOps Engineer, you will architect and own our container orchestration, cost-optimized multi-region deployments, and the integration of all critical third-party services. You will be the cornerstone of ensuring the platform is secure, scalable, and resilient. This is a 6-month contract-to-hire position with competitive compensation and with a strong intent to transition into a permanent leadership role. The selected candidate will be our first DevOps hire and will have the opportunity to build and scale their own team as the company grows. You will be on a clear path to becoming our Head of DevOps, with a pivotal role in shaping our technical strategy, team, and culture. We are in a phased launch, so time is a priority, and we are looking for a teammate who thrives on solving complex technical challenges and is excited to help us build the future of our technology. Key Responsibilities Design, build, and manage Kubernetes-based container orchestration with persistent volumes for student workspaces. Implement and enforce Infrastructure-as-Code ( Terraform ) across our cloud environments. Architect and build our multi-region strategy: India (primary + data residency), Singapore (disaster recovery), US (latency optimization only) for low-latency access and robust failover. Develop and execute backup & disaster recovery (RPO/RTO) strategies for PostgreSQL and container volumes. Own the monitoring/alerting stack ( Prometheus/Grafana ), autoscaling, and continuous cost optimization. Build secure, automated pipelines for all 3rd-party integrations (Stripe/Razorpay, Jitsi, Taiga, GitHub, email/SMS). Collaborate with Full Stack and IAM engineers to ensure secure user provisioning and lifecycle management. Deploy, manage, and secure Apache Superset on Kubernetes for data analytics dashboards. Implement continuous data synchronization and backup systems to ensure zero student work loss. Build and manage student workspace isolation and container lifecycle management. Deploy and maintain educational tools (Apache Superset, Jupyter Lab, VS Code Server) within container environments. Requirements 5+ years of professional DevOps/SRE experience. Strong, hands-on expertise with Kubernetes , Docker , and Helm in production environments. Proven experience writing production-grade Terraform modules for AWS (preferred) or GCP . Deep knowledge of PostgreSQL administration, including backup and replication strategies. Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions/GitLab/Jenkins). Expertise in setting up monitoring and logging with Prometheus, Grafana, and the ELK/EFK stack. A strong grounding in disaster recovery principles and scaling strategies. A passion for automation, security, and building resilient systems. Experience with educational technology platforms or multi-tenant environments (preferred). Understanding of data protection and compliance requirements. Nice-to-Have Experience with GitOps practices (ArgoCD/Flux). A proven track record of cost optimization in cloud deployments.
