Job Description: We are seeking a motivated Mechanical Design Intern to support the mechanical and structural design of next-generation drone platforms. You’ll be involved in part modeling, structural analysis, and prototyping of drone subsystems. Working alongside a cross-disciplinary team, you will contribute directly to the mechanical systems that enable high-performance drone operations. This role is ideal for mechanical engineering students who are passionate about aviation, product design, and rapid prototyping. You will gain exposure to CAD-based workflows, FEA simulations, manufacturing constraints, and engineering best practices from concept to test-ready prototypes. Responsibilities Duties and Responsibilities: ● Design and develop mechanical parts for drone assemblies using CAD tools (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, CATIA, etc.) ● Create detailed part and surface models for drone structures and enclosures ● Perform FEA-based strength and thermal analysis on load-bearing components ● Assist in optimizing components for manufacturability via 3D printing, CNC machining, and sheet metal processes ● Participate in design reviews and contribute to engineering documentation, drawings, and BOMs ● Collaborate with electronics and firmware teams to ensure proper system integration ● Conduct material selection based on performance, cost, and environmental considerations ● Assist in prototyping, assembly, and testing of drone hardware Qualifications Education : Bachelor’s (in-progress or completed) in Mechanical Engineering Required Experience/Skills: ● Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (3rd/4th year B.Tech or Master’s preferred) ● Proficiency in CAD tools such as SolidWorks, Fusion 360, CATIA, etc. ● Solid understanding of mechanical design principles, kinematics, and mechanisms ● Basic knowledge of structural FEA (SolidWorks Simulation, Ansys, etc.) ● Understanding of material properties and the selection process for mechanical applications ● Detail-oriented with strong documentation and communication skills ● Team-oriented and able to work under minimal supervision Nice-to-Haves: ● Prior experience in drone design or UAV mechanical systems ● Familiarity with DFM principles and prototyping techniques (3D printing, CNC, laser cutting) ● Knowledge of aerodynamic shaping and drag considerations ● Familiarity with generative design or topology optimization tools Experience working on student projects like UAV competitions, Formula SAE, or RoboCon About Aerion Aerospace Internships: Our internship program is designed to offer engineering students hands-on exposure to real-world drone development, mentorship from experienced engineers, and access to advanced tools and manufacturing techniques.
