Account Manager - Vertical Sales, Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG)
Location: Mumbai
Role purpose
Own and grow strategic CPG accounts across Mumbai / West India, with assigned national CPG accounts. Act as the customer relationship owner, shaping near-term order intake while building multi-year transformation partnerships across automation, drives, industrial software, services and digitalization. The role requires strong corporate-account access, early project influence and the ability to scale a plant-level success into multi-site and enterprise-wide engagement.
Key responsibilities
-
Build account strategies, stakeholder maps and 1-3 year growth roadmaps for assigned customers, covering corporate, plant, procurement, engineering, operations and digital leadership.
-
Deliver short-term sales goals through disciplined opportunity creation, qualification, forecasting, negotiation and closure, while protecting margin and customer value.
-
Create long-term engagement through executive relationships, installed-base modernization plans, greenfield influence, digital roadmaps, sustainability themes and multi-site replication.
-
Identify customer pain points and translate them into measurable business value, ROI and differentiated Siemens propositions rather than stand-alone product quotations.
-
Develop a healthy, evidence-based pipeline; maintain accurate CRM data; run weekly opportunity reviews and monthly account-plan reviews with clear milestones and next actions.
-
Orchestrate technical sales, business units, services, software teams, partners, OEMs, EPCs and consultants while retaining clear end-to-end account ownership.
-
Track competition, buying centres, specifications, project signals and share of wallet; convert market intelligence into early customer actions and account-specific battle plans.
-
Capture win/loss learning, create references from successful use cases and replicate proven solutions across customer plants and adjacent CPG accounts.
Strategic acumen and dynamism required
-
Think strategically, but move with urgency: switch comfortably between today’s forecast blocker, this quarter’s target and a multi-year customer transformation agenda.
-
Operate with high energy, curiosity and resilience in an ambiguous environment; proactively open doors, challenge assumptions and create opportunities before formal RFQs.
-
Balance hunting and farming: acquire new business, expand existing accounts, revive inactive relationships and displace entrenched competition through value and risk-managed migration.
-
Communicate credibly from shopfloor to CXO level, combining industry understanding, commercial judgment and concise executive storytelling.
-
Show strong ownership, collaboration and learning agility; mobilize the wider Siemens ecosystem without waiting for perfect information or losing speed.
Experience and capability profile
-
Approximately 8-12 years of B2B sales, strategic account management or business development experience in industrial automation, electrical/drive systems, industrial software, digitalization or related technology solutions.
-
Demonstrated success in owning complex accounts, developing pipeline, negotiating commercial outcomes and converting consultative opportunities into orders.
-
Exposure to CPG, food and beverage, brewery, dairy, FMCG, process industries or high-speed manufacturing is strongly preferred.
-
Working understanding of plant automation and digital architectures, including PLC/DCS/SCADA, drives, MES/MOM, industrial edge, data/AI use cases, lifecycle services and OT cybersecurity.
-
Strong stakeholder management, forecasting discipline, presentation and negotiation skills; willingness to travel extensively to customer and project locations.
-
Engineering or technology degree preferred; MBA or equivalent commercial qualification is an advantage.
Success measures
-
Order intake, revenue, gross margin and forecast accuracy against agreed targets.
-
Qualified pipeline coverage, new-application creation and share-of-wallet growth.
-
CXO access, early project influence, account-plan milestone completion and customer engagement cadence.
-
Conversion of pilots/references into multi-site rollouts, modernization programmes or recurring business.
-
CRM quality, cross-functional orchestration and customer satisfaction.
The ideal candidate combines strategic depth with frontline intensity: a thoughtful account architect who is equally comfortable closing the next order and shaping the next three years of customer growth.
