Position Title: Dental Insurance Verification Specialist Department: Revenue Cycle Reports To: Billing Supervisor Employment Type: Full-Time Job Summary The Dental Insurance Verification Specialist is responsible for verifying patients’ dental insurance benefits prior to their appointments to ensure accurate billing and reduce claim denials. This role involves communication with insurance companies, patients, and dental staff to confirm eligibility, coverage levels, deductibles, and copayments. Key Responsibilities Verify Insurance Eligibility: Contact insurance companies via phone, fax, or web portals. Confirm active coverage, effective dates, and plan type. Check Benefits and Coverage: Verify benefits for procedures such as exams, cleanings, crowns, implants, orthodontics, etc. Identify frequencies, limitations, waiting periods, and annual maximums. Update Patient Records: Enter verified insurance data into the practice management system (Dentrix, Eaglesoft, OpenDental, etc.). Upload EOBs and maintain organized digital files. Communicate Findings: Notify the treatment coordinator and billing team of any coverage changes or issues. Provide accurate estimates for patient portions.
