Job Description: Operation Theatre (OT) Assistant / OT Staff Job Title: Operation Theatre Assistant / OT Staff Department: Operation Theatre / Surgical Services Reporting To: OT In-charge / Nursing Superintendent / Surgeon Job Summary: The Operation Theatre Assistant supports surgeons, anesthetists, and nursing staff in preparing and maintaining the operation theatre. The role involves sterilization, equipment handling, patient preparation, and ensuring smooth workflow during surgical procedures while maintaining high standards of safety and infection control. Key Responsibilities: 1. Pre-Operative Responsibilities * Prepare the operation theatre before each procedure. * Ensure availability and proper functioning of all surgical instruments and equipment. * Assist in positioning and transferring patients to the OT table. * Arrange surgical instruments and supplies as per the requirements of the procedure. * Assist in checking sterilization indicators and maintain sterile fields. 2. Intra-Operative Responsibilities * Assist surgeons and scrub nurses during procedures by providing instruments and supplies. * Maintain aseptic techniques and support infection control practices. * Manage surgical instruments, sponges, and consumables to ensure safety and accuracy. * Operate and assist with OT equipment such as suction machines, cautery units, lights, and monitors. * Ensure smooth coordination between the surgical team. 3. Post-Operative Responsibilities * Clean and prepare the OT for the next procedure. * Collect, clean, and send instruments for sterilization. * Dispose of biomedical waste as per hospital guidelines. * Assist in transferring patients to the recovery area. 4. Administrative & Support Duties * Maintain records of equipment, consumables, and instrument sets. * Report any malfunctioning equipment to the OT In-charge. * Assist in inventory management and ordering supplies. * Ensure compliance with safety protocols and hospital policies. Qualifications * 10+2 (Preferred: Science stream). * Certificate/Diploma in Operation Theatre Technology / OTT / OTA. * Experience in a hospital or surgical environment preferred. * Knowledge of sterilization techniques, medical equipment, and OT protocols. Skills & Competencies * Strong understanding of aseptic and infection control practices. * Good communication and teamwork skills. * Ability to remain calm in high-pressure situations. * Physical stamina to assist with long procedures. * Attention to detail and good organizational skills.
