Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Programming & CAD/CAM Operations
- Generating 2D and 3D VMC programs using CAM software (e.g., Delcam, PowerMill, Mastercam).
- Interpreting complex engineering drawings, mold designs, and blueprints to plan machining sequences.
- Optimising cutting paths, feed rates, and spindle speeds to reduce cycle time and ensure component quality.
- Machine Setup & Operation
- Setting up tools, workpieces, fixtures, and reference points on VMC machines (Fanuc, Siemens, or Mitsubishi controls).
- Selecting appropriate cutting tools, holders, and inserts based on raw materials (such as tool steel, stainless steel, and copper).
- Executing the first-off component trial and verifying dimensions before starting full production runs.
- Precision Machining for Medical Molds
- Machining multi-cavity injection mold parts, inserts, core-cavities, and EDM electrodes with high precision.
- Maintaining tight tolerances required for high-accuracy medical disposable device components.
- Inspecting machined parts using precision instruments like micrometres, vernier calipers, dial gauges, and height gauges.
- Maintenance & Tool Room Standards
- Performing daily machine maintenance, fluid level checks, and maintaining clean workspaces.
- Troubleshooting programming errors or machine abnormalities to minimize downtime.
- Properly documenting machining logs, shift outputs, and tooling consumption details.
Skills and Qualifications
- Education: ITI in Machinist / Tool & Die Maker, or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering / NTTF / GTTC.
- Experience: 3 to 7 years of hands-on experience as a VMC Programmer and Operator, specifically within a Plastic Injection Mold manufacturing or Tool Room environment.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in CAM programming software (PowerMill, Mastercam, or NX).
- Expertise in operating Fanuc or Siemens-controlled VMC machines.
- Strong knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and blueprint reading.
