Job Description

Video Editor Job Responsibilities 1. Edit Engaging Cooking Videos • Craft compelling video narratives with strong hooks in the first 3–5 seconds. • Implement seamless, creative transitions to maintain viewer attention throughout. • Incorporate music, sound effects, and motion graphics that enhance storytelling. 2. Software Proficiency • Demonstrate expert-level skills in video editing tools like Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, and DaVinci Resolve. • Basic understanding of After Effects (for animation and transitions) is a plus. 3. Visual Storytelling • Understand and apply storytelling techniques tailored to food and cooking content (e.g., step-by-step visuals, slow-motion food shots). • Sync edits with audio cues and use pacing effectively to create flow and mood. 4. Collaboration • Work closely with the content creator (you) to understand your style, tone, and vision. • Provide creative input on filming techniques and visual aesthetics. 5. Quality Control • Ensure all videos are color graded, properly mixed, and exported in high resolution optimized for platforms like Instagram, YouTube, or TikTok. • Maintain brand consistency and deliver on tight deadlines. Filming Tips for Cooking Videos (to Complement a Great Editor) 1. Use a Multi-Camera Setup • Overhead shot: Best for seeing ingredients and steps clearly. • Side or 45-degree angle: Adds visual interest and shows the cook’s hands. • Close-ups: Capture textures, sizzles, and steam for sensory appeal. 2. Good Lighting Is Crucial • Use soft, diffused lighting (natural light near a window or LED panels with softboxes). • Avoid harsh shadows and yellow indoor lights. 3. Shoot in High Frame Rate When Possible • For slow-motion shots (e.g., seasoning, oil sizzle, or pouring), film at 60fps or higher. 4. Keep It Tight and Clean • Frame the key action, avoid unnecessary movement, and keep the background clutter-free. • Use props intentionally for color and vibe. 5. Capture B-Roll • Ingredients, utensils, setup process, final dish plating—these clips give editors flexibility for transitions and pacing. 6. Record Clean Audio (if needed) • Use a lav mic or shotgun mic if you’re talking, and record kitchen sound effects separately if possible.
