As an experienced professional passionate about building best in class underwriting technology, your primary focus will be on developing and refining underwriting rules for Ethos" state-of-the-art life insurance underwriting engine. Your work will directly impact customers, partners, and the overall business, contributing to exciting transformation projects. **Key Responsibilities:** - Co-author an automated underwriting rules ecosystem for the risk assessment process - Maintain and improve the underlying rules within the engine - Update underwriting criteria systematically performed by the system for current products - Review evidence and synthesize underwriting data from all sources - Collaborate with the Head of Underwriting Strategies to assess business risk for guideline changes - Prioritize system decisions based on business need, ROI, and business case - Ensure end-user proficiency with new systems through onboarding training - Serve as a technical liaison between the Underwriting Strategy team and the IT team - Conduct pre- and post-production testing of underwriting updates, rules, and data sources - Participate in the labeling of ground truth data to enhance the accuracy of underwriting models - Foster an environment of psychological safety **Qualifications and Skills:** - 3-5+ years of life new business underwriting and case management experience - Extensive experience with underwriting rules engines and rules management - Comfortable in an agile environment and with systems like JIRA - Understanding of data and models in the underwriting process - Ability to communicate results and needs effectively among multiple parties - Record of identifying opportunities and delivering solutions promptly - Desire to be a team player and challenge the status quo - Obsession with the customer - Experience in ownership of end-to-end unit testing process **Preferred Qualifications:** - SQL/Python proficiency - Background in medical encoding or a related field in life or health insurance - Familiarity with data labeling processes for machine learning models If you are excited about this role but do not meet every single requirement, we encourage you to apply anyway.
