As a Staff Full-Stack Software Engineer at Deliveroo, your work plays a crucial role in achieving group-level objectives and metrics. You will have the opportunity to lead projects beyond your team's scope, benefiting other teams within the organization. Reporting to managers and group leads, you will collaboratively deliver impactful results. In terms of technical execution, you will be recognized as an expert in at least one relevant technical domain, offering guidance and insights to multiple teams and colleagues. Your responsibilities will involve forecasting and managing project timelines and risks, as well as establishing a sustainable and incremental team pace. Your role will also entail defining technical solutions for significant business challenges and comprehending the context in which pivotal company decisions are made. Collaboration and leadership are integral aspects of this role. You will be involved in aligning non-adjacent teams and disciplines to address unstructured and ambiguous issues. This extends to mentoring individuals across all levels and supporting emerging leaders within the team. Furthermore, you will steer the technical direction of your team, influence strategic decisions, and cultivate relationships with teams outside your immediate sphere. As a Staff Engineer, you will actively participate in engineering interviews, contributing to setting the standard for hiring at Deliveroo. While we do not expect candidates to fulfill all requirements, we highly value expertise in crafting well-designed, readable, and thoroughly tested software. Ideal candidates will have extensive experience in developing web-based applications, proficiency in various programming languages (such as Go, Ruby/Rails, Python, Scala, or Rust), and a strong appetite for continuous learning. Proficiency in relational databases like PostgreSQL and MySQL, along with experience in scaling web architectures to manage substantial traffic, is essential. Practical knowledge of NoSQL data backends and key-value stores like Redis, DynamoDB, ElasticSearch, and Memcache is necessary. Problem-solving skills and the ability to tackle complex challenges through software solutions are highly regarded. Additionally, familiarity with front-end technologies, particularly React.js, is beneficial.
