Job Description

A. Clinical Activities

  • To monitor Subordinates for Patient Endorsement.
  • Carries out assigned job given by Team Leader Nursing / Nursing Supervisor.
  • Responsible for monitoring vital signs and ongoing assessment of the patients.
  • Plans and provides the basic care according to the priority needs of the patients.
  • Accompanies Consultants on rounds and updates patient care.
  • Carries out Consultants’ orders appropriately.
  • Maintains personal hygiene of patients.
  • Administers medication using correct procedure & counter checking of medication of high risk dose.
  • Takes responsibility of admission, discharge and transfer of the patient.
  • Takes responsibility of collection of samples and sending for investigations.
  • Documents in all relevant records as per hospital policy.
  • Maintains checklist and inventory of medicines, instruments, equipment’s etc.
  • Checks the crash cart and keeps it ready for use.
  • Maintains checklist and takes inventory of high alert medications/narcotics/backup

pharmacy on a daily basis.

  • Maintains ward safety and provides safe environment.
  • Completes Competency Assessments.
  • Takes part in training and Staff Development Programme.
  • Handling of patient complaints and feedback in absence of team leader.
  • Handling Code blue activation.
  • Smooth functioning of wards in absence of Team leader.
  • Monitoring and Reporting Incident & medication error.

B. Educative Activities

  • Plans and provides health education to patients and relatives.
  • Participates in in-service education programme.

C. Supervisory Activities

  • Supervises and guides Nursing assistant, Housekeeping staff and Co-workers.
  • Supervises patients and visitors for maintenance of health promotion.

D. Recording and Reporting Activities

  • Reports Critical patient's conditions promptly to the concerned person in verbal

and written.

  • Reports any absenteeism of staff.
  • Records and reports nursing care, treatment, medicine correctly and promptly.
  • Reports and records any losses and breakage in the Hospital.

E. Communication Activities

  • Provides Psychological support to patient and relatives.
  • Reports any incident to the concerned person.
  • Gives orientation to patient and relatives about physical facilities, policy rules and

regulations of the hospital.

  • Maintains good interpersonal relationship with patients, relatives, colleagues, coworkers

and the department staff.

Will be responsible for any other duties assigned by the Team Leader-Nursing/Nursing Supervisor from time to time.
