Sr. Java Developer

About the Role

We are looking for a skilled Senior Java Developer to design, develop, test, and maintain reliable, scalable, and high-performance software applications. The successful candidate will contribute to application architecture, backend development, system integration, and technical problem-solving while working closely with other developers and project stakeholders.

This role is suitable for an experienced Java professional with a strong understanding of software engineering principles, object-oriented programming, database management, and modern application development practices. The candidate should be comfortable handling complex technical challenges, maintaining code quality, and contributing to the delivery of dependable software solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain enterprise-grade applications using Java and related technologies.
• Write clean, reusable, maintainable, and efficient code in accordance with established development standards.
• Develop backend services, RESTful APIs, and application components.
• Work with Java frameworks such as Spring, Spring Boot, and Hibernate, where applicable.
• Design and maintain database integrations using relational databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Oracle.
• Analyse technical requirements and translate them into practical software solutions.
• Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve application defects and performance issues.
• Implement unit tests and support integration testing to maintain software reliability.
• Review code and recommend improvements to code quality, security, and maintainability.
• Collaborate with frontend developers, QA engineers, business analysts, and other technical stakeholders.
• Participate in application design discussions and contribute to technical documentation.
• Support application deployment, monitoring, and maintenance activities.
• Use version control systems such as Git to manage source code and collaborative development.
• Identify opportunities to improve application performance, scalability, and development workflows.
• Follow appropriate security practices and software development standards throughout the development lifecycle.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

• Relevant professional experience in Java application development.
• Strong knowledge of Java programming and object-oriented programming principles.
• Understanding of data structures, algorithms, exception handling, and collections.
• Experience developing backend applications and integrating RESTful APIs.
• Knowledge of relational databases, SQL queries, and database design principles.
• Familiarity with software testing, debugging, and performance optimisation.
• Experience using Git or another version control system.
• Understanding of software development lifecycle practices.
• Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
• Good communication skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with Spring Boot, Spring Framework, and Hibernate.
• Familiarity with microservices architecture and distributed systems.
• Knowledge of Maven or Gradle build tools.
• Experience with JUnit, Mockito, or comparable testing frameworks.
• Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, or containerised application environments.
• Understanding of cloud platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Experience working with CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment processes.
• Knowledge of application security, logging, monitoring, and performance profiling.
• Experience contributing to code reviews and technical design discussions.
• Familiarity with Agile or Scrum development methodologies.
