Job Description

1. Identification & Assessment Identify students with special needs through screening, teacher referrals, and assessments. Conduct or coordinate psycho-educational assessments and develop Individualized Education Plans (IEPs). Collaborate with counselors, psychologists, and academic staff for comprehensive evaluation. 2. Individualized Education Plan (IEP) Development Create, implement, and regularly update IEPs based on student strengths and needs. Set measurable academic, behavioral, and developmental goals in consultation with parents and school staff. 3. Teaching & Support Provide direct instruction to students in one-on-one or small group settings. Modify and adapt the general education curriculum to meet the individual needs of each student. Support classroom teachers in inclusive settings to manage and teach students with special needs. 4. Collaboration with Stakeholders Coordinate with class teachers, subject teachers, therapists, and parents to ensure consistent support. Conduct regular meetings with parents to review progress and discuss strategies. Advocate for the student's needs and inclusion within the school system. 5. Documentation & Compliance Maintain accurate and confidential records for all students with special needs. Ensure compliance with educational board guidelines and legal regulations related to special education. Prepare reports for internal reviews and external audits or inspections. 6. Behavior Management & Social Skills Develop and implement behavior management plans tailored to individual students. Teach social and life skills necessary for independent functioning. Manage and de-escalate behavioral challenges using appropriate interventions. 7. Training & Capacity Building Conduct awareness and sensitization programs for staff on inclusion and special education. Train and guide teachers and support staff in handling special needs students. Stay updated through professional development programs, workshops, and seminars. 8. Resource Development Create and organize specialized teaching aids and learning materials. Suggest and procure assistive technology or resources to support students’ learning. 9. Progress Monitoring & Reporting Regularly evaluate and track student progress against IEP goals. Share updates with parents and school management through formal reports and meetings. 10. Promoting Inclusion Advocate for and implement inclusive education practices. Support the integration of students with special needs into mainstream activities and curriculum.
