Software Engineer II, Platform Catalog & Insights

As a Software Engineer (SRE) at Wayfair, you will be part of the Site Reliability Engineering team focused on cloud native design, stability, and enhancing SRE best practices. You will play a key role in ensuring the efficiency, stability, observability, velocity, and scalability of our systems in the e-commerce space. Here's what you will be responsible for: - Engage with the product and engineering team from Day 1 to design, build, and maintain the system/software proactively. - Influence the design and architecture of Wayfair's system as part of the Cloud Enablement journey, collaborating with development teams to design scalable and reliable systems. - Optimize and develop repeatable systems for both software engineers and fellow Platform Engineers to leverage. - Assist service owners in building realistic SLOs, setting SLAs and error budgets, and ensuring reliability is built into production services. - Participate in troubleshooting and root-cause analysis of complex issues across hardware, software, database, network, etc. - Contribute to a shared on-call schedule following a follow-the-sun model managed across SRE & Engineering. - Develop and maintain tools and frameworks for automating deployment, CI/CD pipeline, configuration, and software system management. - Mentor new hires and other engineers to increase technical efficiency across the organization. Qualifications required for this role include: - 3+ years of experience working as a Software Engineer in a Platform role or software development with knowledge of cloud infrastructure. - Proficiency with cloud platforms such as GCP, AWS, Azure, and containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes. - Experience in server-side software engineering using languages like Java, Go, Perl, Python, etc. - Design experience with distributed systems, microservices architecture, and related technologies. - Strong understanding of monitoring, alerting, performance monitoring, tracing instrumentation, and SLI/SLO/SLAs. - Familiarity with decoupling monolith services, CI/CD pipelines, and version control systems like Git. - Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration across engineers, product managers, and business stakeholders. Nice to have: - Passion for leading technical initiatives, consensus building, and influencing design decisions. - Experience in gathering and balancing requirements from technical and business stakeholders. - Previous experience mentoring engineers and leading code reviews.
