Job Description: Site Reliability Engineer
The SRE at Worlds is responsible for keeping the platform reliable, secure, observable, and operational across customer environments. This role bridges cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes operations, platform administration, and incident response to ensure the end-to-end Worlds platform performs consistently in production.
This role combines DevOps, cloud engineering, platform administration, and operational reliability work. It is well suited for someone who is comfortable owning infrastructure reliability, production operations, and platform administration.
Role Summary
The SRE serves as a critical operational owner of the Worlds platform. The role manages Azure infrastructure, Kubernetes-based services, observability tooling, light operational database administration, platform configuration, and production support. Success in this role means delivering high availability, smooth deployments, proactive issue prevention, and dependable customer readiness across environments.
Key Responsibilities
Cloud and Infrastructure Management
- Deploy, manage, and optimize Azure resources that support the Worlds platform at scale.
- Administer services including Azure Kubernetes Service, Blob Storage, Container Registry, Managed Identity, Key Vault, PostgreSQL, Redis, Service Bus, Virtual Networks, and Private Endpoints.
- Oversee GPU and CPU node pools used for inference and transcoding workloads.
- Configure AKS clusters for high availability, resilience, and cost efficiency.
- Apply cloud security best practices for identity, access control, secrets management, and network governance.
- Support FinOps efforts by monitoring resource consumption, identifying cost drivers, and improving efficiency.
Kubernetes and Platform Orchestration
- Manage container orchestration and deployment workflows that power application and AI services.
- Maintain and upgrade Helm charts for core platform services, open-source dependencies, and customer-specific logic.
- Operate and troubleshoot ArgoCD sync workflows and CI/CD deployment processes.
- Investigate failed deployments, pod restarts, image pull issues, and cluster drift.
- Support release rollouts, change validation, and environment readiness checks.
Observability, Monitoring, and Performance
- Maintain Prometheus-based metrics collection across platform services.
- Update and create Grafana dashboards to monitor service uptime, camera and transcoder health, inference status, event flow, and SLA-related indicators.
- Define, tune, and maintain alerts and thresholds for proactive detection of issues.
- Use telemetry and operational data to identify trends, prevent downtime, and improve reliability.
Database Operations and Performance Awareness
- Monitor Azure Flexible PostgreSQL health, capacity, connection trends, and general query performance.
- Take basic operational actions such as scaling compute tiers or adjusting storage when needed.
- Assist engineering teams with query analysis and validation of performance-related changes.
- Support dashboards and internal reporting that depend on PostgreSQL query performance and accuracy.
- Escalate recurring performance issues and provide operational feedback for long-term remediation.
Platform Configuration and Administration
- Create and configure companies, sites, cameras, and devices within the Worlds platform.
- Deploy and validate transcoders and edge components in customer environments using K3s.
- Support inference pipeline setup and integration with live camera streams.
- Validate detections, events, and platform behavior using APIs and dashboards.
- Collaborate with customer teams to confirm operational readiness and successful platform adoption.
Reliability and Incident Response
- Participate in on-call rotations and respond to incidents affecting platform health.
- Monitor system status through dashboards, alerts, logs, and telemetry.
- Investigate recurring low-level errors to identify patterns before they become service-impacting incidents.
- Resolve incidents, document findings, and contribute to root cause analysis.
- Maintain runbooks and operational documentation for repeatable issue resolution.
- Collaborate with Development, Support, and Customer Success during incident response and post-mortems.
- Provide feedback into engineering for durable fixes to systemic reliability issues.
Required Skills and Experience
- Experience managing production workloads in Microsoft Azure.
- Hands-on experience with Kubernetes administration, especially AKS.
- Working knowledge of Helm, ArgoCD, and CI/CD deployment practices.
- Experience with observability tooling such as Prometheus and Grafana.
- Familiarity with incident response, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis in production environments.
- Practical understanding of cloud networking, secrets management, identity, and infrastructure security.
- Experience supporting containerized services and distributed systems.
- Ability to work across infrastructure, platform operations, and customer readiness activities.
- Comfort with light database operational work, particularly PostgreSQL performance monitoring.
- Strong written documentation and cross-functional communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting AI, inference, or video-processing workloads.
- Familiarity with GPU-backed infrastructure and transcoding services.
- Experience deploying edge components in customer or hybrid environments.
- Knowledge of Redis, RabbitMQ, or event-driven platform components.
- Exposure to cost optimization and FinOps practices in cloud environments.
- Experience working with customer-facing technical operations or delivery teams.
What Success Looks Like
A successful SRE keeps the Worlds platform stable, observable, and scalable while enabling reliable customer deployments and fast operational response when issues arise.
- Platform services remain available, performant, and well monitored.
- Deployments are predictable, validated, and low risk.
- Customer environments are configured correctly and brought to readiness efficiently.
- Operational issues are identified early, resolved quickly, and documented clearly.
- Automation, dashboards, and runbooks continuously improve the teams operating model.
Working Relationships
This role works closely with Core Engineering, Forward Deployed Engineers, Customer Service Managers and customer technical teams. It requires strong coordination across internal and external stakeholders to balance reliability, customer readiness, and continuous improvement.
Role Impact
This position directly supports platform uptime, deployment quality, data accuracy, customer confidence, and operational scale. The role is central to ensuring that Worlds can deliver and sustain reliable environments without sacrificing speed, visibility, or cost discipline.
