Job Description

Position: Shuttering Carpenter

Department: Construction / Civil

Reporting To: Site Engineer / Foreman / Supervisor

1. Job Purpose

A Shuttering Carpenter is responsible for building, installing, and dismantling formwork/moulds used to hold wet concrete until it sets. This role requires precision, knowledge of construction drawings, and experience in structural work.

2. Key Responsibilities

Formwork & Shuttering Work

  • Construct, install, and dismantle formwork for columns, beams, slabs, foundations, retaining walls, and other RCC structures.
  • Measure, cut, and assemble timber, plywood, and steel formwork based on drawings and specifications.
  • Ensure proper alignment, accuracy, and structural stability of formwork.
  • Fix shutters using nails, screws, clamps, props, and scaffolding systems.

Blueprint & Measurement

  • Read and understand construction drawings, layout plans, and measurements.
  • Mark cutting lines and perform precise measurements to ensure accuracy.
  • Coordinate with steel fixers, masons, and concrete teams for workflow planning.

Tools & Machinery Operation

  • Safely operate carpentry tools such as saws, drills, grinders, hammers, and measuring instruments.
  • Maintain tools in good working condition and request replacements when needed.

Concrete Support Activities

  • Apply release agents on formwork before concrete pouring.
  • Assist in concrete placement and ensure formwork remains stable during pouring.
  • Check for leakages, gaps, or defects before concrete work begins.

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all site safety rules and use PPE (helmet, gloves, boots, safety glasses).
  • Maintain good housekeeping around work areas.
  • Report any hazards or unsafe conditions to supervisors immediately.

3. Qualifications & Skills RequiredEducation:

  • High School / ITI in Carpentry (preferred but not mandatory).

Experience:

  • 2–5 years of experience as a Shuttering Carpenter (Gulf experience preferred).
  • Experience in high-rise buildings, commercial projects, or infrastructure work is an advantage.

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of formwork systems (timber, steel, aluminium).
  • Good understanding of measurements, levels, and carpentry techniques.
  • Ability to read drawings and follow instructions.
  • Physical stamina and ability to work at heights if required.
