Senior Database Administrator (SQL & NoSQL - MongoDB + AWS DR Expertise)

Job Summary

We are seeking a seasoned and strategic Senior Database Administrator (DBA) with extensive experience in both SQL and NoSQL environments. The ideal candidate will be an expert in **read optimization techniques in MongoDB and possess deep knowledge of disaster recovery (DR) strategies in AWS, including Multi-AZ and Multi-Region deployments.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect, implement, and maintain relational (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB) databases.
• Optimize read-heavy workloads using MongoDB techniques:
• Design and manage compound and multikey indexes
• Implement sharding strategies for horizontal scaling
• Apply partitioning logic to improve query performance
• Lead the design and execution of AWS-based disaster recovery solutions:
• Configure Multi-AZ deployments for high availability using Amazon RDS
• Design Multi-Region failover strategies using Aurora Global Database, AWS DMS, and Route 53
• Define and enforce RPO/RTO objectives and automate DR testing procedures
• Monitor and tune database performance across platforms
• Collaborate with engineering teams to design efficient data models and queries
• Develop and maintain robust backup, recovery, and failover procedures
• Automate administrative tasks using scripting (Python, Bash, Shell)
• Mentor developers and other team members and contribute to database architecture decisions

Required Skills

• Expert-level proficiency in MongoDB:
• Indexing strategies (single field, compound, hashed, TTL)
• Sharding configuration and balancing
• Aggregation framework and query profiling
• Advanced experience with SQL databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, MS SQL Server)
• Deep understanding of AWS disaster recovery:
• Multi-AZ replication and failover mechanisms
• Multi-Region DR architecture using Aurora Global DB and AWS DMS
• Backup strategies using AWS Backup, S3, and EBS Snapshots
• Strong grasp of NoSQL concepts and document-based data modelling
• Experience with performance monitoring tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana)
• Scripting expertise for automation (Python, Bash)
• Familiarity with cloud-based database deployments (AWS, Azure, GCP)

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
• 10–12 years of experience as a DBA or in a similar role
• Certifications in MongoDB, AWS, or SQL databases are highly desirable

Bonus Skills

• Experience with replica sets and failover mechanisms
• Knowledge of Ops Manager, Cloud Manager, or similar MongoDB tools
• Familiarity with tools like Terraform or Ansible for DB provisioning
• Hands-on experience with AWS CloudFormation for DR automation
