Senior Backend Engineer

As a Backend Engineer at our VC-backed startup based in Bangalore, you will play a pivotal role in designing and scaling backend systems for our consumer-facing products. With over 6 years of experience in the field, you will have the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies such as Python (FastAPI), PostgreSQL, Redis, Docker, and AWS. Your primary responsibility will be to translate product specifications into robust and cloud-native backend architectures, ensuring system design, performance, and reliability are top-notch. In this role, you will be tasked with designing and developing scalable backend systems that drive real-time user experiences. Your expertise in translating product requirements into clean and extensible backend logic will be crucial. You will work on developing and maintaining RESTful APIs using Python with FastAPI, architecting efficient database schemas and queries with PostgreSQL, and implementing caching, queues, and background job processing using tools like Redis and Celery. Moreover, you will be responsible for deploying, monitoring, and scaling systems on AWS, containerizing applications using Docker, and contributing to CI/CD pipelines. Ensuring system robustness through testing, observability, and proactive debugging will be a key focus area. Collaboration with product, design, and frontend teams will be essential to deliver features end-to-end. To excel in this role, you should possess at least 6 years of backend engineering experience in a consumer tech or fast-paced product environment. Strong product thinking and the ability to translate high-level specifications into scalable architectures are essential. Deep expertise in Python (FastAPI) and PostgreSQL, along with experience in working with message queues, workers, and caching systems, are required. Familiarity with cloud-native environments, AWS, Docker, and infrastructure automation is also crucial. Exposure to Kafka or event-driven architecture would be considered a strong advantage. The ability to deliver clean, maintainable code with a focus on performance is highly valued. If you have prior experience in scaling backend systems for high-traffic consumer apps, comfort with distributed systems and microservice-based architectures, and familiarity with logging, monitoring, and tracing tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, and ELK, it would be a bonus.
