Research Engineer

Refractory Solutions
within the
Performance Ceramics & Refractories (PCR)
business. The selected candidate will play a pivotal role in driving the development of new ceramic solutions and advancing both product and process innovation to support the company's growth and sustainability goals.
Role Requirement
- Actively contribute to R&D projects centered on the development of refractory solutions for various industrial applications, including both primary and secondary steel manufacturing routes.
- Design new formulations & execute hands-on laboratory and pilot-scale experiments with minimal supervision. Support the scale-up of innovative solutions from lab to industrial implementation.
- Develop detailed project plans, apply Design of Experiments (DOE), and leverage statistical tools to efficiently deliver work packages within defined timelines.
- Collaborate with Business Unit (BU) teams to understand market needs, enhance application knowledge, and proactively propose innovative ideas.
- Need to be solution-oriented approach with a collaborative mindset, driven by strong technical acumen and a natural curiosity for learning.
- Willingness to travel, as required by business or project needs, for customer interactions and on-site trials.
Skill Set
- Hands on experience in the design & syntheis of new ceramic formulations employing a variety of processing techniques.
- Proficiency in conducting physical property testing of ceramics and refractories at ambient and elevated temperatures, with the ability to interpret and correlate these properties with material performance.
- Strong understanding of characterization techniques for inorganic materials, and the ability to demonstrate structureproperty relationships effectively.
- Strong theoretical and practical knowledge in Metallurgy, with a focus on Iron & Steel applications.
- In-depth knowledge of refactory materials used in Metallurgy, and their manufacturing processes.
- Familiarity with induction furnace operations and the application of refractory solutions in both ferrous & non ferrous metal processing.
- Should possess good communication & presentation skills including the ability to interact efficiently with colleagues across various functions and locations.
- Strong technical writing skills, with the ability to produce clear, comprehensive, and well-structured technical reports and documentation.
Qualification
- Ph.D. in the area of Ceramics/Materials Science/Metallurgy with 0-2 years of relevant industrial experience OR
- Masters in the area of Ceramics/Materials Science/Metallurgy with 3-7 years of relevant industrial experience
