Job Title: Product Owner Commercial & Specialty Insurance (Underwriting & Actuarial)

Position Overview

• Own, refine, and prioritize the product backlog for insurance platform modules, aligning with enterprise business goals and digital transformation roadmaps.
• Translate complex underwriting rules, rating algorithms, and actuarial pricing models into clear Epics, User Stories, and Acceptance Criteria (Gherkin/BDD).
• Participate actively in Agile ceremonies: Sprint Planning, Backlog Refinement, Daily Standups, Sprint Reviews, and Retrospectives.
• Define and track key business metrics (Loss Ratios, Quote-to-Bind Ratio, Underwriter Straight-Through Processing (STP) rate, and turnaround time).
• Lead User Acceptance Testing (UAT), operational readiness, and feature rollouts with underwriting operations and broker partners.

Domain Leadership (Underwriting & Actuarial)

• Underwriting Automation:

  Design automated intake, triage, risk assessment, and decision engines for specialty commercial lines.

• Actuarial & Rating Integration:

  Partner with Actuarial teams to integrate complex rate-making algorithms, rating tables, loss cost models, and exposure curves into digital rating platforms.

• Specialty Lines Expertise:

• Workers' Compensation:

  Formulate rules around payroll classifications, experience modification factors (EMR), class codes, and regulatory filings.

• Professional Liability:

  Structure coverage, indemnity limits, retroactive dates, and deductible structures across diverse professional service segments.

• Cyber Insurance:

  Embed dynamic security assessments, vulnerability scans, aggregate accumulation tracking, and ransomware-specific risk indicators into underwriting workflows.

• Reinsurance:

  Build workflows for ceding calculations, proportional/non-proportional treaty structures, retention limits, facultative placements, and bordereau generation.

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Experience:

  5 to 10 years in the insurance industry as a

  Product Owner, Technical Product Manager, or Lead Business Analyst

  working on Underwriting/Actuarial/Core Insurance platforms.

• Domain Breadth:

  Strong functional understanding of commercial property & casualty (P&C) or specialty lines, specifically:
• Underwriting workflows & risk appetite design
• Actuarial pricing models, rate filing logic, and loss reserving principles
• Workers' Compensation, Professional Liability (E&O/D&O), and Cyber Insurance
• Reinsurance mechanisms (Treaties, Facultative, Excess of Loss, Quota Share)

• Agile Competency:

  Solid hands-on experience with Agile/Scrum delivery frameworks, JIRA, Confluence, and backlog prioritization techniques (MoSCoW, WSJF).

• Technical Interface:

  Ability to communicate technical specifications (APIs, data models, rating engines, third-party underwriting data feeds) with engineering and QA teams.

• Education:

  Bachelors or Masters degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Actuarial Science, Finance, Insurance, or equivalent.

• Relevant insurance certifications:

  CPCU, AINS, FCII/ACII
