Job Description: Technical Product Owner - Payment Gateway Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Technical Product Owner with deep expertise in Payment Gateway systems to lead the product strategy, development, and delivery of our payment solutions. This role combines product management acumen with good technical knowledge to bridge the gap between business objectives, customer needs, and engineering teams. ________________________________________ Key Responsibilities Product Strategy & Roadmap • Define and communicate the product vision and roadmap for payment gateway solutions • Conduct market research and competitive analysis to identify opportunities and threats • Prioritize features and enhancements based on business impact, customer feedback, and technical feasibility • Ensure alignment between product strategy and organizational goals Requirements & Backlog Management • Gather, analyze, and document detailed business and technical requirements from stakeholders • Create and maintain a well-prioritized product backlog with clear acceptance criteria • Write epics, user stories, and acceptance criteria with sufficient technical depth • Manage scope and prevent scope creep through effective negotiation with business and technical teams Cross-Functional Collaboration • Partner closely with Engineering, QA, Design, and Operations teams to ensure successful delivery • Act as the single point of contact for product decisions and trade-offs • Facilitate communication between technical teams and business stakeholders • Participate in sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives Technical Leadership • Lead technical design discussions and architectural decisions for payment gateway features • Review technical proposals and provide constructive feedback • Ensure solutions align with security, compliance, and scalability requirements (PCI-DSS, PSD2, etc.) • Identify technical risks early and collaborate on mitigation strategies Quality & Compliance • Ensure all payment solutions meet regulatory requirements (PCI-DSS, PSD2, GDPR, local regulations) • Define quality standards and testing requirements for payment systems • Oversee UAT planning and execution for payment features • Monitor post-launch performance and drive continuous improvements Customer & Stakeholder Management • Gather customer feedback and translate into actionable product requirements • Conduct product demos and training sessions with key stakeholders • Manage customer expectations and communicate product roadmap clearly • Track and report on product metrics, KPIs, and business impact ________________________________________ Required Qualifications Experience • 5+ years in Product Management or Technical Product Ownership roles • 3+ years of hands-on experience with payment gateway systems, payment processors, or fintech products • Proven experience managing complex, regulated software products • Background in B2B SaaS or enterprise software preferred Technical Skills • Strong understanding of payment systems and payment flows (authorization, settlement, reconciliation) • Knowledge of payment gateway APIs and integration patterns • Familiarity with payment security standards (PCI-DSS, tokenization, encryption) • Understanding of database systems, APIs, • Ability to read and understand technical documentation and code (not necessarily write code) Core Competencies • Strategic thinking and ability to translate vision into actionable roadmaps • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with data-driven decision making • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities • Project management skills with experience in Agile/Scrum methodologies • Business acumen and understanding of financial/payment industry metrics • Attention to detail, especially regarding compliance and security ________________________________________ Technical Competencies (In-Depth) Payment Gateway Expertise • Deep understanding of payment authorization, settlement, and reconciliation workflows • Knowledge of card brands (Visa, Mastercard, Amex) and their requirements • Understanding of payment failure scenarios and remediation strategies Security & Compliance • Strong grasp of payment security best practices • Knowledge of PCI-DSS compliance requirements and audit processes • Understanding of data protection regulations (GDPR, CCPA, regional laws) • Ability to translate compliance requirements into product features Integration & API Design • Experience designing and managing payment APIs • Understanding of webhook management and asynchronous processing • Knowledge of payment integration best practices with third-party systems • Familiarity with payment testing environments and sandbox systems
