You will be joining the Tesco Technology Store Shopping team, responsible for managing the web customer experience for Grocery, Tesco.com, and several micro websites within Tesco. Your role will involve overseeing grocery websites across multiple countries and ensuring a seamless customer account experience across all online channels of Tesco. The team operates on a brand-new cloud platform built on NodeJS and ReactJS, utilizing APIs to achieve complete statelessness. Embracing modern web standards and multi-tenancy, the approach is to gradually replace existing functionality with modern testing frameworks and automation principles. Despite operating at a significant scale, being the largest online grocery website globally, the team follows Agile principles with a focus on continuous improvement towards continuous delivery. As a Principal Software Development Engineer, you will play a crucial role in shaping Tescos technical landscape, contributing to strategic planning and defining technical strategy based on business vision and industry best practices. Your responsibilities will involve guiding multiple teams, setting standards for engineering excellence, and driving efficient technical design across product portfolios, infrastructure, and processes. Your key responsibilities as a Principal Software Development Engineer will include guiding large programs of work, driving strategic design decisions, contributing to Tescos Inner Source Platform, resolving disputes, influencing engineering strategy, mentoring Software Development Engineers (SDEs), and contributing to organizational goals such as hiring and strengthening the assessment process. You will work closely with Product Managers, Engineers, Technical Programme Managers, and members of the wider engineering community. While you will not have direct line management responsibility, your role will involve guiding SDEs in functional areas, conducting knowledge transfer sessions, leading code and design reviews, and contributing to the development of SDEs to help them reach their full potential. To excel in this role, you should possess strong written and verbal communication skills, problem-solving abilities, innovative problem-solving approaches, and a customer-focused mindset. Relevant experience includes familiarity with best practice methodologies, proficiency in programming languages, and experience in people and team management.
