Principal Engineer - Elastic Search

As a Principal Engineer for Search (Elasticsearch) at Majid Al Futtaim Retail, you will play a crucial role in managing and optimizing the Search platform built on Elasticsearch and Elastic Cloud. Your responsibilities will include: - Taking full technical ownership of the Search platform to ensure scalability, resilience, and world-class performance. - Architecting, optimizing, and managing Elasticsearch clusters, indices, mappings, analyzers, and queries for highly relevant search experiences. - Collaborating with Product Managers, Data Scientists, and Engineering Leaders to design and deliver Elasticsearch-powered solutions. - Driving development of advanced search features such as ranking models, autocomplete, personalization, multilingual support, and semantic search. - Leading engineering efforts integrating Java, Node.js, Redis, Kafka, MongoDB, and Azure-based services into the search ecosystem. - Overseeing rollout, monitoring, and continuous improvement of search systems on Elastic Cloud and Azure infrastructure. - Providing technical leadership to the Search team, mentoring engineers, conducting design/code reviews, and ensuring best practices are followed. - Collaborating with engineering managers to guide and uplift the overall technical delivery and productivity of the team. - Championing observability, reliability, and DevOps practices for search systems in production. - Actively contributing to long-term strategy, roadmap planning, and adoption of modern search technologies. Qualifications required for this role: - Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field. - 10+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 7+ years of expertise in Elasticsearch/Elastic Cloud. - Strong proficiency in Java and Node.js, hands-on expertise with Redis and Kafka, and deep understanding of Azure cloud services. - Experience managing large-scale, high-traffic search systems with complex requirements. - Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and grow engineering teams. - Strong problem-solving, debugging, and system design skills. - Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence stakeholders. - Familiarity with containerization, orchestration, vector search, NLP integrations, microservices, serverless architectures, and event-driven systems. - Strong understanding of DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, and observability tools.
