Job Description

As a Postdoctoral Fellow at UNSW in Sydney, Australia, you will be part of the School of Mathematics and Statistics, contributing to a five-year Laureate Fellow project funded by the Australian Research Council and UNSW Sydney. Your role will involve advancing the analysis of dynamical systems through the development of novel techniques in functional analysis, operator theory, ergodic theory, differential geometry, and data science. Your research will focus on various topics such as linear response, random and nonautonomous dynamical systems, spectral analysis, machine learning, data-driven dynamics, stability/perturbation theory, and rigorous numerics. **Role Overview:** You will be responsible for developing theories that significantly advance the field of dynamical systems, implementing algorithms to analyze dynamical systems efficiently, collaborating on publications in leading international mathematical and scientific journals, providing comprehensive analysis reports, and contributing to small-team research activities. **Key Responsibilities:** - Develop theories using techniques from functional analysis, operator theory, ergodic theory, differential geometry, data science, and machine learning. - Implement algorithms to analyze dynamical systems from idealised models or data. - Collaborate on publications in international mathematical and scientific journals. - Provide comprehensive analysis reports in a timely manner. - Coordinate research activities and participate in setting future research directions. - Assist in the supervision and mentoring of PhD students. - Present research results at conferences and other venues. - Adhere to the Code of Conduct and Values. - Comply with health and safety policies and procedures. **Qualifications Required:** - PhD in Mathematics or closely related discipline, preferably in dynamical systems. - Excellent oral and written communication skills. - Track record of research publications relative to career opportunities. - High-level analytical and problem-solving skills. - Ability to work independently and as part of a team. - Capacity to deliver high-quality project outcomes. - Computer programming experience, preferably with Julia and/or Matlab. - Understanding of and commitment to UNSW's aims, objectives, and values. - Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities.
