About The Role

The role of this Research Assistant is to work on Experimental Study and Computational Solids Mechanics model of soft materials with application to renewable energy in general and flexible materials for wave energy converters in particular.The successful candidate will work on the UKRI-funded project, Mor-Neidr that will be focused on developing experimentally-validated computational models for soft polymers including viscoelastic and viscoplastic model. While this is an interdisciplinary project where computational coupled frameworks for Solids Mechanics and Fluid Mechanics will merge, the Research Assistant is expected to carry out independent research and develop new experimental set-ups to conduct experiments on viscoelastic polymers and will work on the integration of the associated software for the Solids Mechanics side of the project under the guidance of the Principal Investigators (PIs) and other collaborators of the project.Development of a new test rig for a soft material component will be a minor part of the role, and so experience of mechanical design is an advantage. Further, the Researcher will work closely with colleagues who will mainly work on design and experimentations of soft energy harvesters.The project leadership team consists of Prof. Mokarram Hossain and Prof. Ian Masters at Swansea University and the Industry Partner Checkmateflex. The team is further strongly supported by a few Industry partners such as Wave Venture Ltd, Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult, CGEN Engineering Partner (CGEN) Ltd. The Research Assistant will have the opportunities to visit industrial partners for short-term knowledge exchange activities
