Platform Reliability Engineer II

As a Software Engineer (SRE) at Wayfair, you will play a crucial role in growing our systems to be best-in-class in terms of efficiency, stability, observability, velocity, and scale within the e-commerce industry. You will have the opportunity to collaborate closely with the product and engineering teams from the initial stages to design, build, and proactively maintain the system and software. Your responsibilities will include influencing the design and architecture of Wayfair's system as part of the Cloud Enablement journey. You will work with development teams to create scalable and reliable systems that prioritize fault tolerance, availability, and performance. Collaboration with both software engineers and Platform Engineers will be essential to optimize and develop repeatable systems that benefit both sides. Additionally, you will assist service owners in establishing realistic SLOs, setting SLAs and error budgets, and ensuring that reliability is integrated into the design of production services. In the event of extremely complex issues, you will engage in troubleshooting and root cause analysis across various stacks including hardware, software, database, and network. Furthermore, you will participate in a shared on-call schedule following a follow-the-sun model managed across SRE & Engineering. Your role will also involve developing and maintaining tools and frameworks to automate deployment, CI/CD pipeline, configuration, and software systems management. By automating repetitive tasks, you will enhance efficiency and minimize human error. To be successful in this role, you should have at least 3 years of experience working as a Software Engineer in a Platform role or software development with a strong understanding of cloud infrastructure. Proficiency in cloud platforms such as GCP, AWS, Azure, and containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes is required. Experience with server-side software engineering using languages like Java, Go, Perl, or Python is essential. Design experience with distributed systems, microservices architecture, and monitoring and alerting is highly valued. Strong communication skills are crucial as you will interact with engineers, product managers, and business stakeholders. Additionally, experience decoupling monolith services, knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, version control systems like Git, and a passion for leading technical initiatives are advantageous.
