As a versatile PCB Design Freelancer at Charcoal, you will be responsible for driving schematic-to-layout workflows independently. Your role will involve creating compact, manufacturable, and robust 4-layer PCB designs, focusing on analog component selection, harness design, and power electronics. Attention to detail, design sensibility, and a profound understanding of electronics are essential for excelling in this technical freelance position, which requires your presence in Bangalore. Key Responsibilities: - Transform schematic diagrams into optimized PCB layouts, including 4-layer boards, with meticulous stack-up planning. - Select analog and power components based on application requirements, availability, cost considerations, and electrical performance. - Develop resilient power supply circuits such as buck/boost converters, LDOs, and protection mechanisms. - Define harness routing and connector positioning to ensure both electrical safety and mechanical compatibility. - Create and manage all necessary deliverables for fabrication and assembly, including Gerber files, BOM, Pick-and-Place files, and 3D views. - Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles and engage with vendors during fabrication as needed. Required Skills: - Proficiency in PCB design tools like Altium Designer, KiCAD, Eagle, OrCAD, or EasyEDA. - Sound knowledge of analog circuit behavior, grounding techniques, and noise mitigation strategies. - Experience in harness and connector design, encompassing power, data, and control cabling. - Demonstrated expertise in multi-layer PCB stack-ups, particularly 4-layer designs for power, analog, and digital applications. - Strong understanding of DC-DC converters, battery charging circuits, and load protection mechanisms. - Ability to select components based on thermal, electrical, and mechanical specifications. - Familiarity with IPC standards, EMC/EMI best practices, and thermal management techniques. Nice to Have: - Familiarity with automotive or industrial harness standards (e.g., Molex, JST, TE connectors). - Experience in coordinating with PCB manufacturers and harness vendors, particularly in India or China. - Understanding of mechanical integration constraints within product enclosures.
