Position Overview: The Pathology Coding Specialist is responsible for accurately coding pathology reports, abstracting pertinent information, and assigning appropriate ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes to laboratory order records. The position ensures accurate documentation, timely completion, and communication of pathology billing to ensure accurate coding and reimbursement. This role also requires the ability to research missing data, follow up on denials, assist with insurance inquiries, and support the overall efficiency of the coding department. Required Skills: 2-6 years of experience in pathology coding. Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, MIPS and CPT coding guidelines for pathology Understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology Ability to accurately process pathology reports and billable charges Excellent oral and written communication skills Detail-oriented with the ability to stay focused and efficient in coding tasks Strong organizational and time management skills Knowledge of reimbursement and Medicare guidelines. Preferred Skills: Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification Experience with pathology coding across multiple scenarios and contracts Familiarity with job aids, databases, and online resources for coding Experience in generating and maintaining billing reports. Immediate joiners are preferred. Job Description: The Pathology Coding Specialist will be responsible for reviewing and accurately coding pathology reports, ensuring correct assignment of diagnosis and procedure codes in accordance with ICD-10-CM and CPT/HCPCS/MIPS guidelines. The specialist will handle multiple pathology scenarios, sort and file completed transactions, and maintain daily reports of completed work. As part of the coding team, the individual will assist in managing denials, following up on incomplete records, and collaborating with pathology billing staff to ensure timely and accurate completion of all transactions. Additionally, the specialist will support the departments workflow, address insurance inquiries, and develop skills to meet established production guidelines. The role requires a high degree of accuracy, organization, and professionalism.
