Patient preparation: Obtain medical history, ensure the patient is comfortable, and prepare them for the procedure by explaining the process. Procedure assistance: Work alongside the cardiologist and other healthcare professionals, prepare and maintain a sterile field, and assist with handling instruments and medications during the procedure. Equipment operation: Set up and operate specialized equipment, such as cardiac monitors, imaging devices (like fluoroscopy), and hemodynamic monitoring systems. Patient monitoring: Continuously monitor the patient's vital signs, including electrocardiograms (EKG), blood pressure, and oxygen saturation, and report any abnormalities to the physician. Safety and documentation: Ensure patient safety throughout the procedure, document all procedure details accurately, and maintain an inventory of supplies. Emergency response: Assist in emergency procedures like angioplasty or stent placement if needed. Essential skills and knowledge Detailed knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy and procedures. Proficiency in using specialized medical equipment. Strong patient care and communication skills. Ability to monitor patient status and respond to changes during a procedure. Knowledge of sterile technique and safety protocols. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Experience with image-guided procedures like angioplasty and stent placement is a plus. Experience with EKG and other diagnostic tests is often required.
