The Radiology Coder is responsible for accurately assigning CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS codes to radiology procedures and diagnoses based on clinical documentation. This role ensures compliance with payer guidelines and supports clean claim submission for optimal reimbursement.
Key Responsibilities:
Review radiology reports and assign appropriate CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS codes
Ensure coding accuracy and adherence to regulatory standards (AAPC/AHIMA, CMS, HIPAA)
Maintain a minimum of 96% coding accuracy and meet turnaround time requirements
Collaborate with billing and AR teams to resolve coding-related denials or queries
Stay updated on changes in radiology coding guidelines and payer policies
Participate in coding audits, team meetings, and continuous education initiatives
Identify documentation deficiencies and escalate to appropriate stakeholders
Support revenue integrity by preventing undercoding or overcoding
Required Skills & Qualifications
Graduate in Life Sciences, Nursing, or Allied Health (preferred)
25 years of experience in radiology coding (freshers with strong anatomy/physiology knowledge may apply)
Certification: CPC, COC, CCS, or equivalent from AAPC/AHIMA (preferred)
Proficiency in CPT-4, ICD-10, HCPCS, and medical terminology
Familiarity with coding software and EHR/EMR systems
Strong analytical and documentation skills
Knowledge of MIPS, modifiers, and payer-specific coding rules
